When I change SONG NAMES and info, it changes in itunes but not in original

When I change song names and info, it changes in itunes but not in original file

I have lots of music. I've cleaned up many of the song titles. When I drag and drop songs to other folders or drives after I've renamed or removed the 01,02,03 from in front of songs or complete a snipped name or changed the genre etc. I always end up with the original title. not the edit I wanted.
I spend 8 hours one day renaming files but they only get changed within itunes. when I created a backup of itunes by draging all the songs to another drive all the original names returned. many of them have numbers in front or long song names that get snipped off It looks good in iTunes but it's alot of time lost

How do I make it so that all my hard work also permanently changes the songs that I have in my itunes music library so I never have to rename them again

I have keep itunes music folder organized checked off

no, I'm just choosing a miscilanious selection of songs and genre's to put on my other music devices. I'm highlighting a group of songs from the main music section from within itunes and draging to a desktop folder but they end up with the 01,02 or even artist name first (ie Dave Matthews Band- 41) when in itunes it has already been changed to "41"

try it if you like. create a new folder in desktop then drag songs that you might have altered and tell me if the names stayed the same or reverted back to the old name

I have alot of music and would love to know the songs I've altered are permanent

thanks

No, the number is back in front, although it was removed when I edited it (plus many more) using itunes.

I'm just hoping there's something I can click on that will automatically make my change permanent. Many downloads have the song number in the song title, but shouldn't be there so I delete only to find it there again when I move the file
the numbers came off my cd's that way.

as you can imagine, sorting by song name brings up 100 songs called 01,02 then the name, making it hard to find a song by name or sharing with my other music devices (having to start fresh and rename or delete 01,02 all over again)

Now for my next question ( i'll also post this as a new question)

I have 15 versions of the surf song "Apache" but when I try to move the songs via drag and drop in itunes to a windows folder, after the first version, it asks " you already have a file names "apache" would you like to overwrite it?"

which I don't.

Even when I rename the file to "apache two" it still says I already have "apache" in that folder. They are all different versions by different groups.

How can I move them all to the same windows folder??.

thanks

rename the files after you put them in the directory (drag&drop the first file name it apache1.mp3 then drag&drop the second file rename: apache2 and on like that)

if you rename the in Itunes, windows my show a new name but the MS-DOS name my be the same windows uses 2 names: the windows name and the (hidden) MS-DOS name if any of these are the same you cant copy them to the same directory but only windows can chance the MS-DOS names

Is there a way to change setting so that iTunes rename files in other folders aside from iTunes music folder? I have tons of albums already imported to iTunes from MyMusic folder, and I edited song titles of them, but iTunes would not rename the file. The only workaround I found is (1) remove album from iTunes (2) move that folder to iTunes music folder (3) re-import the songs, so that names are changed (4) remove from iTunes (5) move the folder back to where it was (where I wanted), (6) import it back to iTunes ... That's insane.

thanks,
