Imac shuts down randomly

Hello all.

I have an early 2006 Imac and it has been giving me issues recently.

It has been turning off randomly, as if the power cord was pulled, after about 30mins of use, sometimes less, sometimes abit more.

Then, when I try to turn it on again, it will not. My only fix has been to disconnect all the cord on the back, for 15mins.

I have read about people with a similar issue and I have installed smc fan control.

I also use the mac with boot camp, and use both windows and mac frequently. However the issue of random shutdowns occurs with both as well.

Some tech info for the mac:

Mind is the 20inch model, I added another 512mb of ram when i bought it at the apple store.

The windows side of the Imac uses xp sp2, the mac side uses 10.4, with all software updates downloaded and installed.

Oh, and btw, I currently reside in Merida, Mexico 🙂

I wouldnt like to have this go off topic, but I am a proud owner of 4 apple computers, this Imac core duo, macbook, an Emac G4 and a mac mini G4.
All have been solid buys for all my needs, this is the first I have ever had serious issues with and the first that will be sent in for service.

Now, on the tool I downloaded,

Again, thank you all for your helpful replies.

I agree with you, but so many people complaining about the same problem they should know by now it is a common problem maybe they don't know what it is and would not admit it. I respect this company and love their products that's why I will never buy a pc even though they are sold by a fraction of what an imac cost. But people need to go to the store and let them know what's going on with their computer. I worked so hard to pay for this computer I want a working one, wouldn't you? 😉

There is something wrong with a computer that shuts down randomly,I tried to put a regular fan behind my computer and didn't work. They replace the power cord 2 times, they changed the logic board, they also repaired the hardware, all this was done in 3 trips to the store. They finally gave me a new one because they just couldn't repair it. They must not know what's the problem.

sorry for double posting but I forgot to say that my point was that ppl need to take their computers to the store, so the tech know what's going on with all these defective computers. They told me that is not a common problem... hmmm I don't think so, even my boss had the same issue and he took his to the store then I see all these people in different boards complaining about the same issue. It gives me the idea that PPL think their computers will fix themselves, they won't! This is more of a serious problem and ppl are not realizing this. I am just so glad to have taken my comp to the shop!
