Yep, this file certainly is a mess & it does indicate SD. Some stuff up must has occurred during encoding to deliver this mutated file.

(The file does playback freely on Windows Media Player but the surgeons I'm dealing with are Mac men & want to be able to cut the files on their MacBook Pro.)

I'm going to start again from scratch and shoot some smaller sample files on their system (at the hospital) to ensure I'm recording 1080p. And possibly pursue the Perian option that Colin suggested.

This may take a few days (because I have other work to complete) so hopefully you can stay tuned why I get to the bottom of this & work out how to cut this footage.

I'm very grateful for this Forum & in particular, your efforts. Thank you so much.

After re-recording new files I found there was no stuff up at all during encoding.

The Capture Settings were MPEG-4 with Resolution 1920x1080 but the file's Properties Page revealed it was encoded as MP4S with Resolution of 720x576.

This information was uncovered opening it in VLC & initially I was baffled as to why this change in resolution occurred. Perhaps it's simply doing what the encoder is designed to do ie: reduce file size for ease of management and transport. But then a colleague suggested there is no encoder currently available that will record 1080p & preserve it as a true 1080 HD file.
I wonder if you can shed any light on this?

I'd already had Flip4Mac & then downloaded Perian but both were not installed in Apps but are found in System Preferences beside Apple QMaster in a section labeled 'Other'. They don't seem to be Applications at all and I was enable to use either (Flip or Perian) to open the files I recorded. Do you have any suggestions as to how I can open them using these non-applications?

As you may have guessed I need to persist with this issue and ultimately work out a way to to transcode these files I have outlined above to a workable compatible file format that Final Cut Pro will accept.

And again I am very indebted to you for any input & ideas you can provide.

Thanks,
Marv
