Bottom of iPhone touchscreen not working...

So, I discovered today that my iPhone's touch screen isn't working like it should. The bottom bar/dock doesn't work. VERY BAD! I don't use the phone part any more (AT&T *****, so I switched back to T-Mobile and my Sidekick III unfortunately), but I do still use the email, web, iPod and map functions on a regular basis (very important). So now I can't access my email or anything... just my calendars, and even thats not fully functional.

Questions is.... has anyone had this happen? Any other way to fix it? I don't live ANYWHERE near an Apple Store, so that is totally out of the question. To those who have had this problem, how was Apple's response/solution to the problem? Was it a smooth resolution, or a frustrating hair-pulling experience?

(I ALMOST threw the iPhone.... but I didn't!)

Any ideas, comments, experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

you are hysterical Tamara. I did NOT hack my phone. i went to 02 and THEY unlocked it. I dont know how they did it, but did not touch it. in fact the apple store said that MANY phones have come in like that, as 02 does not do pay as you go for iPhone, but it is not stoping them from adding customers. i did not hack my phone. this is BS and you know it. Apple is screwing millions of customers.

Mine did just that yesterday. I tried everything reboot **** restor but nothing works. I had to go to an Apple store. Since you dont live by one, i suggest you call 1800myiphone and inquire how you can sent it by mail or something. But if there is any way you can get to one at all, it is worth the trip. all i had to do was make an appointment go there and in 10 mins the rep gave me a replacement phone.... good luck

I've had my iPhone since August with not one problem. Just yesterday the bottom part of my touch screen became unresponsive. Of course this meant all the icons in the dock which are the most important became useless. I reset, restored, and everything else I can think of. No go. Took it to an Apple store this morning and it was instantly replaced without question. It seems this is a problem they have seen before.

You are problably right, but in France Orange do unlocking on demand. In french law a phone can not be attached to a carrier. In that case it is strange to loose warranty because of unlocking.

All Apple fans should change their mind : because with your new MacBookAir, you will like to use it with every kind of WIFI : in the country you live, in every airports, abroad... and not the one that Apple decided.

I think it is not very fair from Apple to refuse to adress a very well know hardware problem, because of a discutable commercial arrangement.

Not entirely true.

A phone can be sold as carrier locked in France as long as an unlocked version is also available.

Apple is abiding by French law by selling an unlocked iPhone version (at a higher price than the carrier locked version) in addition to the carrier locked version with Orange. It is my understanding the official unlocked iPhone version sold in France can be used with French cellular providers only. If so, an official unlocked iPhone version purchased in France cannot be used with an at&t SIM card in the U.S.

In that case it is strange to loose warranty because of unlocking.

I believe this also applies to the iPhone sold as carrier locked with Orange in France (since an official unlocked iPhone version is also available due to French law), and this definitely applies to an iPhone purchased in the U.S. which is sold as carrier locked with at&t only. Modifying the iPhone's software or hardware to be used in an unapproved or unofficial capacity is against the license agreement for the iPhone and Apple reserves the right to not honor the warranty when doing so.

Apple has a defined business model for the iPhone which can't be compared to w-fi access. I have no problems with Apple's business model but I would have a problem with it if I traveled outside of the country on a regular basis for business. If I did, I would not purchase an iPhone.

Thanks Allan for your explanation, you are very clever.
What I did not understand before is that iPhone is not a phone to buy if you travel or if you plan to move abroad. Apple is not a good brand because when there is a problem on your phone, there is something in a 10 pages contract or/and arrangements that make repairing impossible.

This misunderstanding cost me $400.

Every page discussing the rates shows AT&T as the only carrier.

That means it's exclusively sold by ATT in the US.

But the topic is, whether it's widely advertised that the phone is unable to use foreign SIMS.

Especially since every other AT&T phone can.

I would say that the casual buyer would not know this, nor be told this. And therefore blaming someone for not knowing this exception is ridiculous.

Hi there to everybody. I just had the same problem 2 days ago. I have bought my I phone in the States, however the company I am working for, transfer me to Dubai to work.
The bottom screen does not work at all and therefore I can not answer any calls as I have to slide the bar on the bottom to do so.
Please help...
Do you think If I call Apple and give the registration numbers of my phone, will the send me a replacement if I send mine back?
Any Idea?
Thanks a lot
