Bottom of iPhone touchscreen not working...

So, I discovered today that my iPhone's touch screen isn't working like it should. The bottom bar/dock doesn't work. VERY BAD! I don't use the phone part any more (AT&T *****, so I switched back to T-Mobile and my Sidekick III unfortunately), but I do still use the email, web, iPod and map functions on a regular basis (very important). So now I can't access my email or anything... just my calendars, and even thats not fully functional.

Questions is.... has anyone had this happen? Any other way to fix it? I don't live ANYWHERE near an Apple Store, so that is totally out of the question. To those who have had this problem, how was Apple's response/solution to the problem? Was it a smooth resolution, or a frustrating hair-pulling experience?

(I ALMOST threw the iPhone.... but I didn't!)

Any ideas, comments, experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Very happy to be back here to share with all of you, news about my Iphone.

Perhaps Tamara will like the end of my story (I would like to see her face while I'm writing)

Remember : my iphone comes from New York, and back to France the screen stopped working, making the iPhone unusable. Apple France did not want to change it because it's a US iphone, asking me to go back to New York. In this forum some people said that the problem was my fault, refusing to see that the problem comes from a hardware default. And some other said that I'm just an hacker...

I had the chance to go back to US last week. At the 5th NY Apple Store the Genius ask me why my Iphone is not activated, and I answered that I dont't want to activate a phone that is not working.

Here is the really fun part :
The guy ask me to unlock and jailbreak it because he can't test a non-activated Iphone :
- Where can I do that ? I asked 😉
- Lot of people do that around, find one, do it, and come back here...

2 days later, with my unlocked but unworking Iphone (no simcard in it) , I gave it at the bar, after playing 5 seconds, the Genius gave me a brand new iphone.

It does not make me a happy customer, because it tooks 6 months to make my iPhone works. I had to wrote letters, spend a lot of time to understand... and finaly go back to NY (which was pleasure).... I'm very disapointed about Apple France, because they refused to listen and help...

So, I have a new iPhone waiting on my desk, no simcard in it, because my sim is used since 4 months in a real good N95 Nokia !
