Cisco VPN on Mac vs Windows??

my company uses Cisco VPN to connect to the corporate network, and will provide it for our home computer, but they say we can only use a windows pc to connect to the corp LAN via VPN. then use Remote Administator to control our pc (which i could just install a VNC server instead)

shouldn't i be able to use Cisco VPN for Mac if i have the right settings? and do the settings differ from mac to win?

It depends on the type of VPN hardware your company has installed. I use a Cisco PIX 515E at my office and it has a fully Tiger-compatible client.

Other models of Cisco's VPN hardware may not support Mac.

I personally have never had luck getting Tiger's built-in VPN client to successfully connect to my PIX... but that could be chalked up to user error.....

well i got it installed on OSX and luckily i just copied the .PCF file over from the Win version, and all the setting were correct.

but now when i enter my user and password it goes to authenticate then just kicks me out, and shows 'not connected'

I wonder if it has something to do with it knows i'm trying to connect from a OSX version of Cisco VPN????

Is anyone having trouble with 4.7? I can no longer connect. It acts like it is connected but Remote Desktop cannot locate the server.

I also noticed that the alias to the invisible file opt (private/opt/cisco-vpn) shows up in finder under the hard drive. I have reinstalled, tried sudo commands, opened up a port on my firewall, turned the firewall off completely but no luck to getting a connection or getting the opt alias to quit showing up as a visible file.

I am going to try and reinstall remote desktop but if this does not work I will see if going back to 4.6 still works. 4.6 worked but I would still have times when the connection would seem to pause - meaning I would be typing along and realize that last 4 or 5 letters have not shown up and within a second or two they show up one after the other. I have tried to change the MTU but nothing really changes it.

Do you have the latest version of the Cisco client for Mac OS X? Earlier versions were not compatible with Mac OS X 10.4. The most recent version is apparently 4.7.00.0510.

It's a good idea to keep current with the latest available Cisco VPN client. However, client versions earlier than 4.7.00.0510 are compatible with OS.X.4. In fact I am still using vs 4.6.04 (0061) successfully.

dallastigers - how odd that you write this - I am having the exact same issue with 4.7.00.0510. It worked 2 days ago, then since yesterday it acts as if it connects, grabs an IP address (or says it does) and then.. nothing can connect. I also have a folder called "opt" at the root level of my hard drive.

Unfortunately, can't attempt to trouble shoot until tonight. I will, however, try to open a trouble ticket with Cisco and see what happens.

Have you found any solutions yet??? I have the same problem in that the VPN 4.7 connects, but it will not let me connect to my company server's IP address. My VPN system was orignally set up by a company that is no longer in business, and I have no knowledge in this area. I'm just trying to learn through this discussion site. Any easy to follow instructions you might have would be great! Thanks.
