MacBook Pro, including Clock, slow after update

Wondered if anyone has any ideas. After the security update yesterday, my MacBook Pro (2.16 Ghz) is running very slowly. This includes the clock, which is losing time at the rate of 15-20 minutes/hour, I'd estimate. Windows open and close very slowly; I can see each frame as they go.

I've zapped PRAM but no joy there.

Watching the Activity Monitor and/or Top, nothing in particular is sucking up CPU cycles, but it seems like anything I use, when it needs to redraw the screen, suddenly grabs 30-40% of the CPU. As soon as the window stops moving/resizing, CPU drops to normal low levels again.

What really boggles me is the clock losing time though. I've never seen that before... any ideas?

Oh, I should add that this is my personal machine. I also applied the patch to my work-supplied machine (a 2.4 Ghz MacBook Pro) and suffered no ill effects whatsoever.

I would suggest that you not install the update. Apple has not fixed it as far as I can see. I installed today's updates (Quicktime 7.4.5, iTunes 7.6.2, Front Row 2.1.3) on my crippled MacBook with high hopes that it my be restored to a useful state, but no joy. I finally broke down and did what others have done - a full system restore.

Although it would appear that the broken update only affects a small number of users, the impact is significant. Not only is the clock slow, but everything is sluggish to the point of being unusable. The key repeat rate was essentially not repeating. Front Row played a DVD in herky-jerky slow motion.

It is incredibly irresponsible of Apple not to address this issue. Words fail me to express my frustration and disillusionment with Apple.

I have had the same problem with my macbook pro.
My computer was working fine and then when I tried to turn it on (after being in sleep mode) it was really hot and would not turn on.
I then held down the power button and my computer was very slow to react.
When i finally managed to get it to the desktop, the sound is choppy, the video doesn't work properly and everything seems to be in slow motion. This is what most of the other users in this thread have described.
If I reinstall leopard, will i have to install all my programs and files again?
Thanks,
Daniella

I've had all the same problems-iTunes, quicktime, safari, the clock (it's 11:13 A.M. as I type this, but my clock reads 7:49 A.M.), windows taking forever to disappear, and horrendous lag. I shut my my MacBook down last night, and when I tried to use it this morning, the battery was drained, like it had been running all night. I plugged it in and checked my email; then I went to class for three hours this morning and it hadn't even fallen asleep (I have it set to sleep after 15 minutes). The only thing that ran smoothly was a Final Cut project that I had on my external hard drive. It ran perfectly; the sound and video playback were just fine.

I guess I'll try reinstalling leopard and hope for the best.
