802.11n problems

I have a 2.4 GHz iMac. For some reason it can't connect to my AirPort Extreme when in n (5 GHz) mode. Same problem with my MacBook 2008. I had to reset my AirPort to get back to it, MacBook didn't get IP Address in Ethernet when connected. Here is my specs of my iMac's AirPort Card:

AirPort Card Information:

Wireless Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x88)
Wireless Card Locale: USA
Wireless Card Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (4.150.19.0)
Current Wireless Network: ******************
Wireless Channel: 9

So it only works in n (a compatible) only. What IS WRONG??? 😟

iMac Mid 2007, Mac OS X (10.4.10), I changed my avatar because I hate Leopard! It screwed up my iMac not eMac! :(

Apple products generally have a one-year warranty.

For most products, Apple goes by the serial number.

Go to the Apple Support page

http://www.apple.com/support/

Toward the lower right corner, click on Check My Warranty and Repair Options. In the next window, see if you can look up your base station by its serial number. If you can, it is likely that an Apple Store (or Tech Support) will take the appropriate action without a receipt. I can't promise that, but I got an iPod fixed (replaced actually) without presenting any receipt. The "Genius" just looked it up by SN to confirm it was still covered.

The only thing that I can think of is that your iMac memorized a channel (1-13) and when you changed your base station to 5Ghz it automatically uses channel 36
open sytem prefs/network/Airport/Advanced/choose the correct network and erase
reinstall network, make sure security is the same; wpa or wpa2
make sure that N is enabled
open Applications/utilities/network utility/info/Network interface (en1)
should read; Wireless Network Adapter (802.11 a/b/g/n)
