My two year-old son, after watching me insert a disk, thought he'd have a go and inserted two coins in my disk slot last night. I was wondering how difficult this will be to fix, and should I take it to the Apple store, or are there any tricks to getting them out myself?
Thanks!
My husband did exactly the same thing I did, and amazingly it worked! He closed the computer, tipped it forward, gave the edge a gentle tap and out slipped one coin. He did it again and the other coin slipped out. I have no idea why it worked for him, and not when I tried it. But the DVD/CD drive works perfectly now, with no signs of any damage.
The best advice was to take the MacBook in to have the technicians remove the coins, and some suggested this could be done in less than an hour. There was some interesting discussion about the effects of shattering CD's while in the drive, although slightly off topic. The coins did finally fall out when the computer was closed and gently tapped, but this may not work for everyone. Taking it in for service is probably the only real solution if they don't easily slid out.
