Brother MFC-7820N printer setup

Just got the Brother MFC-7820N install on my iMac G5 via my wireless network. Strange thing is I managed to get the scanner to work but can't figure out how to add the printer.

The user guide indicated selecting "Rendezvous' for Mac OS 10.2.4 but the version I have is Tiger. Any advice on how I can add the printer?

I've downloaded the CUP version from Brother and did the adding by IP address but the printing does not work? What am I doing wrong?

How did you do it? I have MFC 410CN, it worked perfectly before I upgraded the bundle softwares and 10.4.1 to 10.4.2. Now it can't print but does scan. It does show up in Airport Admin correctly.

IP address method seems to work. At least the print service shows up saying connecting to MFC at port XXX. But nothing is actually printed.

Bonjour is another problem. The print service says it's done printing when nothing's printed at all.

Wiget worked a couple times. Now it doesn't.

When you added the printer via the IP printing protocol," did you happen to add using the BRscript driver"? If you are using that driver you cannot PC FAX. Delete and readd the printer via the IP printing protocol and select the CUPs printer driver and add that driver instead. When you select a document to print make sure the Brother unit is named as the device selected. Go to the drop menu and select "copies and pages" and go to the "send fax" feature. Select the output there as "faxcimilie". Input the fax number of the recipient and press "add". Select print and it will fax your document.

There's a known bug in the configuration of this printer. It's missing an 'mDNS' name; without that it won't show up in Rendezvous or Bonjour.

My blog has an explanation and a review:

Also if you search for 'mDNS' on Apple discussions you'll probably find other mentions.

It's really a superb device and with some tinkering it works well with a Mac -- but Brother should at least have put this bug up on their web site. Really, really, aggravating.
