Digital Camera installation issues

I hope that I am in the right board but I recently installed Tiger and cannot get my Kodak Easyshare software to open on my computer. I have uninstalled/reinstalled several times, updated the version from the Kodak website and have downloaded version 10.4.2 of Tiger. When I try to open, I get the Kodak Easyshare Crash Reporter coming up and a window comes up to send report to Apple.

My older 10.2.8 version that I upgraded from gave me no problems whatsoever. Any advice?

This is EasyShare software version 5.0.1, right? I'm having the same problem as you: launching EasyShare bounces the icon for a minute or so, then up comes the "Kodak Easyshare Crash Reporter".

<geek speak>
According to Console, it can't find "MainMenu.nib". There is an "EKMainMenu.nib" file in the English.lproj directory. Duplicating it and making it "MainMenu.nib" doesn't solve the problem.

I sent a message to Kodak technical support about it but I doubt they're going to be able to do much. I suspect EasyShare 5.0.1 was just not very well QA'd.

It would be useful if they could be like Apple and have links to older software so I could downgrade back to a useable configuration (EasyShare for Mac 4.X).

Anyone have any older EasyShare software installers handy? 🙂

I did try the things you told me to do Benjamin, but it didn't work for me. I emailed Kodak and someone did email me but to make sure I meet all the requirements on my computer. I emailed them the crash log as well and hope that they will be able to fix my computer. The only thing that my requirements didn't meet is that I have an eMac but it worked fine on the old version.

Hey guys
Kodak did get back to me but it didn't fix my particular problem (Easyshare crashing before I can open it) but here is what they said in case it is of any use to you:

We believe this problem is due to an invalid
email address in your Mac address book which
affects EasyShare when synchronizing contacts
with your camera. To work around this, try the
following:

- Create a new address book group in the Mac
address book application, leave it empty for now
- Launch EasyShare without a camera connected
- Select Tools/Sync And Transfer Manager...
- Select the icon for your camera
- Select the Email Addresses
- In the menu labeled "Synchronize Device With:",
select the newly created empty address group.
- Close the Sync And Transfer Manager window
- Connect your camera

If this clears the problem, you can add contacts
to the new group, but be sure they have a proper
email address.

Hope this helps someone!

Michael, I am waiting for my IBook to be delivered some time this week. My wife is used to the Kodak Easyshare software (Windows) and would like to use it on the IBook. My question is this. In Windows when the camera is connected via USB (It is an Olymus, not Kodak camera) Easyshare automatically opens and downloads the picture. With both IPhoto and Easyshare on the same computer how do you keep IPhoto from automatically opening also?

Hi Dennis...

iPhoto launching when I connect my Kodak camera has never been an issue for me.

According to iPhoto help, you can select which application is opened when a camera is connected to your computer by opening the "Image Capture" app in /Applications (make sure no camera is connected at the time). Under that Image Capture preferences, choose an application from the Camera Preferences pop-up menu (it'll be the popup next to the "When a camera is connected, open:"... for my AlBook, it's set to "Kodak EasyShare").

I hope this info helps!!

I had similar problems but still can't get the dock printer added because the driver is nowhere to be found in the drop down list.

Any suggestions on getting the printer driver installed correctly? What folder should the installer put the driver in so I might select it manually? What would the driver be named to find with Spotlight.

Multiple uninstall and install's have not helped.

Help!

Hi Edward,
I've been experiencing the exact same problem. About 2 weeks ago I bought my first computer, an eMac M9835, with OSX 10.4.2, a 1.42 gig PowerPC G4 processor, and running Safari.
I have the Easy Share printer dock series 3, which was part of a package with the Kodak Z7590 camera.
When I tried to install the Kodak software Version 4.0.4 that came with the package, and got as far as the "find printer dock driver" I could not go any further. My Mac found the printer dock all right, but was want for a driver, and like you said the drop down menu doesn't show Kodak. A call to Kodak support resulted in the advice to download new software ( version 5 something) from Kodak.com. as the 4.0.4 version isn't compatable with Tiger. I did that with the same result; no driver.
The thing is that the EasyShare software installed just fine, but not the driver, but the driver is what I want, not the Easyshare. iphoto works just fine for that kind of stuff.
I also tried to download and install only the driver software, with the same result. Then I re-did the ES dl and install, and immediately did the driver only dl and install, to no avail.
I just want to say I share your frustration.
