CAN'T PLAY SHOCKWAVE MOVIE EVEN IN ROSETTA MODE

I'm having trouble playing a shockwave movie even after downloading the latest version of shockwave player and setting safari in rosetta mode. I keep having this message: "DIRECTOR PLAYER ERROR. The application requires an Xtra (text) that either doesn't exist or failed to initialize properly. Please make sure the appropriate Xtras are in the Xtras folder(s)". I thought everything was supposed to run fine when safari is set in rosetta mode. Could anyone help cause I don't know what else to do? Thanks.

SoloB - No, it's not your operating system.
I'm running Tiger 10.4.11 on a PPC.
There is a 'Shockwave Player 11 Slim UB' that you downloaded.
And I downloaded the 'Shockwave Installer Slim PPC' and I got the same errors as you.
I had saved the 'Shockwave Installer 10.1.1r16 and after deleting all the 11.0.0.429 files I installed 10.1.1r16 - works great.
The bottom line is - it's Adobe's fault!

MacUptate wrote me and said that it was a new download installer but it still doesn't work on Tiger 10.4.11 PPC.
I tested it here...
<http://www.itma.vt.edu/tech/shockwave.htm>

But, it's working for *some people* on an Intel.

Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.

(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)

Safari does not run well in Rosetta.

In regards to Klaus1 suggestions. Thanks but... that doesn't work for intel based macs at leats not mine running 10.5.2.

After the uninstall followed by the install when you go to a test page like
http://www.itma.vt.edu/tech/shockwave.htm
you still get the same old errors:

Missing Shockwave Decompression extra

Director Player Error
This application requires an Xtra(Flas Movie...) that either does not exist or failed to initialize properly. Please make sure the appropriate Xtras are in the Xtras folder(s)

This application requires an Xtra(text) that either does not exist or failed to initialize properly. Please make sure the appropriate Xtras are in the Xtras folder(s)

This application requires an Xtra(Font...) that either does not exist or failed to initialize properly. Please make sure the appropriate Xtras are in the Xtras folder(s)

Error playing director movie.

So the flash works but the shockwave.

Somewhat sad that this is marked as answered.

Adobe needs to step up if they want us to use their products, 1 year later.

But seriously Klaus1 thanks for trying.

Folks, Flash has nothing to do with Shockwave -- they are two different players and do not affect each other at all. Shockwave 11 is now a universal binary and no longer requires your browser to be run in Rosetta mode. The key thing here is to download the Shockwave full installer from the alternate players page at:
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/

Direct link to universal binary full installer:
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/default/english/macosx/latest/Sho ckwaveInstallerFull.dmg

Important!
Make sure you first run the uninstaller that is included with the download.

Note also that while the full installer includes native xtras missing in the slim install, some Shockwave movies still will not work if they require third party xtras that are not yet compatible with MacIntel machines and SW11.

Hope this clears up some confusion and helps a bit.

Hope this helps.

Hi Guys
Not sure this helps the discussion but...

I have 3 macs between home and work. 24' intel 2.4Ghz dual core 10.5.2
shockwave works a dream. (interestingly cant view a few things from apples web site ?? perhaps another story?).

G4 iMac 10.4.11 shockwave works fine
G4 Ti-Pb 10.4.11 shockwave wont load. tried uninsalling (perhaps withthe incorrect installer(will check this out Klaus thanks!) but I get the message that some components cant be uninstalled as they are in use. (If I knew what and where I would do it manually). Installing new shockwave has no impact.

I suspect this is my problem in that one of the shockwave components is causing problems but I cant overwrite it or remove it.
