EPSON Stylus Photo RX500 - scanner does not work under Tiger

A month and a half ago I installed Tiger on my iMac G4 and since than I have not been able to use the scanner on my EPSON Stylus Photo RX500 anymore. I have no problems printing any documents but when I try to scan, I get an error message: "Unable to access the scanner because it is not ready or another application is using it. Please make sure that the scanner is on and connected to your computer, or close all scanning applications." I guess, if it is able to print, it cannot be a missing any connection to my Mac. And no other applications were running!

After installing the EPSON software which arrived with the all-in-one, I checked the EPSON website and downloaded the newest drivers. But I still cannot use my scanner.

In my UTILITIES folder I found EPSON Scan Settings. Everytime I try to select the correct scanner (RX500) from the drop down menu and click TEST, the Application crashes. I guess the problem lies in incompatibility between EPSON and Tiger. I had no problems using it under Jaguar and Panther.

Does anybody have a similar problem and has found any solution to it? I see many user reported similar issues but I could not find any useful tipps in the discussions so far.

Thanks in advance!

Epson Scan opens through Image Capture, when I choose the "Use TWAIN software" option. But, it only previews, it won't perform the actual scan. Nothing happens when I click on scan. Also, if I don't check the "Use TWAIN software" option, I can click "overview", but then the little bar at the bottom just runs and runs and it never does its Overview scan.

i'm the same as everyone else. the printer works, the copier works, but the scanner is just for looks. i've been reinstalling and uninstalling for the last 2 weeks. i talked to epson they told me the problem was with my image capture. i talked to apple and they told me my version of image capture(3.0.3) wasn't compatiable with the epson rx620. (keep in mind i bought my powerbook a month ago, and the rx620 2 weeks ago.) apple sent me a list of epson scanners that "should" work with my image capture but the problem is they were all scanners epson doens't even sell anymore! does anyone have suggestions that don't involve uninstalling of my printer?

that's odd because I using a RX620 and image capture 3.03 and it works with Twain. I'm on a G5 but it would be hard to believe that would make a difference.

I thought I might point out something obvious but hasn't been mentioned here is that there a lock for the scanner head that supposed to be used for transporting (for the 620) that is on the lower left side underneath the lid that has a lock symbol and a unlock symbol. It should be left in the unlocked side for use. I'm guessing most people know this but it worth checking.
