Z33 Utility Crash

My Lexmark Z33, when I ask it to print black text, uses its colour cartridge and prints in Blue. When I try to set it to "black only" it says I can only do this when a black cartridge is installed (which it is) and refuses to set to this option. I tried to use the Utility to find out what's going on, but every time I try to run the Lexmark Z23-33 Utility, it crashes. It bounces in the dock a few times, gets a black arrow, then fades away a second later. What's going on and how do I fix it???

Reinstalling does something interesting... once I succesfully wipe out lexmark's files and preferences, and reinstall it, it runs but asks me to set it up in Printer Centre, which of course I can't do because it no longer exists. When I do the next best thing in System Preferences, the Utility won't recognise when it's installed, and I have to press "cancel". When I try to run it again... same problem.

It used to work pretty well on Window$. When I moved it on to a Panther eMac it was OK, even if I couldn't get the silly "Print Centre" working, and I couldn't share it properly with a Micro$oft computer. It looks like this problem is new on Tiger, even though the utility used to work (as far as I can remember) when this was a network printer rather than a USB one.

You can try lexmark, if you haven't checked there lately.

Or read about compatibility here...Oh! It's Lexmark.com, too 😉

You might want to uninstall the driver in Printer Utility, and install one of these newer drivers, and see a different arrangement when you go in to addPrinter again. Maybe not...can't tell from your description.

I did the download for my Z53, but I also have it shared on its own PrintServer (for the network) and it's not USB, the Z53 is parallel cable...so I may not be much help any more than this...
Good Luck!

Oh. then I'm not sure.
You COULD try a basic AppleWriter config...but not sure if tht will break anything or not.

Here's something from macintouch.com. A user got this email from Lexmark.
Gist? Download the driver for OSX 10.2.4

Please accept my heartfelt apologies for the problems you are experiencing with your Lexmark product. To the best of my knowledge, there are currently no plans to develop Mac OS 10.4(tiger) drivers to support this model. Thank you for notifying us of this request. I will forward your comments on to our development department, as it is only through input from you, our customers, that we can make these important business decisions. However, you may try driver for OS X 2.4 which may work for Tiger OS X 4.1 too, although it is necessary to download after (OS X 4.1) installation.
