Getting my printer to work on both of my Macs and one PC has been a major headache for over a year now. Originally, I had my printer installed on my PC, and after some trials and tribulations, I was able to print from both the PC and my Macs (running Panther). After upgrading to Tiger I lost all printer functionality from the Macs - back to square one. Unfortunately, no matter what I did I couldn't get the Macs to recognize the printer on the PC again, so I thought I'd try it the other way around and install the printer on one of the Macs. That just lead to more headaches - I could print from either Mac, but not the PC.
Finally, today, the day after Halloween I can shout "IT"S ALIVE!"
Here's what I did:
First of all, I'm using an Epson Stylus C-60 printer which is connected via USB to my G4. My network is ethernet with a D-Link Router and connects a G5, a G4 and an old Dell 733 P3 piece of junk running Windows XP (I only keep it around to run a 3D animation program and a labeling program).
Anyhow, I deleted all printers from ALL machines and started from scratch. Since the G4 was going to host the printer I started there and added a new printer - Epson C60 with a USB connection specified. I printed a test page from the G4 to confirm it worked...no problem. Then I made sure that "Printer Sharing" was enabled in Print and Fax preferences, and "Printer Sharing" and Windows Sharing" were checked in System Preferences/Sharing. Next I went to the G5 and found the printer on the G4 and added it. Printed a test page from the G5...it worked too. I then went to the PC, used Bonjour for Windows and specified the address for the printer on the G4, then set it as my default printer. I printed a test page and almost fell over when IT ACTUALLY WORKED!
I never had to specify a Generic Post Script driver as mentioned in previous posts (maybe Bonjour or Epson took care of that for me???), and I never followed the instructions at
http://www.stocksy.co.uk/information/pantherprint/pantherprintxp.php (also mentioned in a previous post) primarily because I was running Tiger and not Panther.
I hope this all can help somebody - Good luck!
