Printer sharing with Windows XP/Tiger... HELP!!!!

I have a home wired network (lynksys router) w/ 3 window xp home pc's, an imac and a powermac g5..I upgraded to TIGER and Bot a new Canon MP500 multifunction printer from Apple because they said print sharing was now a sinch....

The printer is attached to the PWRMAC. ( I can file share btwn all computers) I can see (under workgroup) the MP500 and ADD the MP500 in network places-printers and faxes...BUT IT WON"T PRINT...and all Applecare will do is refer me to an article that says...

"To print to your printer, Windows users must configure an SMB/CIFS network printer and use the Postscript printer driver, even if the printer isn't a Postscript printer. Your Mac will translate the Postscript code into code the printer can understand. Have the Windows users see their Windows documentation for information on adding a network printer."

Can anyone help.?.I think i just have to turn something else on and have spent close to 5 hours trying to figure it out...I can't find info from Microsoft on Tiger printing and Applecare washes their hands from helping beyond turning on windows print sharing in preferences...

I just spent a lot of money and would like to get this to work..

Excellent! This finally got my Canon PIXMA iP2000 to work properly from Windows!

(up until this point all I got was grey instead of black)

Doing everything that the stocksy.co.uk link says messed up my system but in the end I managed to get everything happy. I found that I needed to ignore his stuff in terminal and just to the add a new raw printer in the CUPS webpage bit.

Once the RAW queue was added, I just used bonjour with the proper Canon driver (which will now do all of the cocky stuff that it likes to do)

Getting my printer to work on both of my Macs and one PC has been a major headache for over a year now. Originally, I had my printer installed on my PC, and after some trials and tribulations, I was able to print from both the PC and my Macs (running Panther). After upgrading to Tiger I lost all printer functionality from the Macs - back to square one. Unfortunately, no matter what I did I couldn't get the Macs to recognize the printer on the PC again, so I thought I'd try it the other way around and install the printer on one of the Macs. That just lead to more headaches - I could print from either Mac, but not the PC.

Finally, today, the day after Halloween I can shout "IT"S ALIVE!"

Here's what I did:

First of all, I'm using an Epson Stylus C-60 printer which is connected via USB to my G4. My network is ethernet with a D-Link Router and connects a G5, a G4 and an old Dell 733 P3 piece of junk running Windows XP (I only keep it around to run a 3D animation program and a labeling program).

Anyhow, I deleted all printers from ALL machines and started from scratch. Since the G4 was going to host the printer I started there and added a new printer - Epson C60 with a USB connection specified. I printed a test page from the G4 to confirm it worked...no problem. Then I made sure that "Printer Sharing" was enabled in Print and Fax preferences, and "Printer Sharing" and Windows Sharing" were checked in System Preferences/Sharing. Next I went to the G5 and found the printer on the G4 and added it. Printed a test page from the G5...it worked too. I then went to the PC, used Bonjour for Windows and specified the address for the printer on the G4, then set it as my default printer. I printed a test page and almost fell over when IT ACTUALLY WORKED!

I never had to specify a Generic Post Script driver as mentioned in previous posts (maybe Bonjour or Epson took care of that for me???), and I never followed the instructions at http://www.stocksy.co.uk/information/pantherprint/pantherprintxp.php (also mentioned in a previous post) primarily because I was running Tiger and not Panther.

I hope this all can help somebody - Good luck!
