Can ping but cannot load site

Hello,

I have a site a site that will not load in Safari or Firefox (I just get an error that the server is not responding).

I can ping the site in terminal just fine and get 0 packet loss. I can also connect to the site with FTP and can upload files.

What can cause this?

Macbook Core 2 Duo: 2.0 GHz, Mac OS X (10.5.2), 120gb hdd/2gb ram

Describe "strange". You should get a response when you enter any old junk into the telnet session that looks like html code - the web server will basically send the response to the terminal. If it was sent to a web browser it'd be rendered as a web page, but a terminal session will just output the code.

Not sure exactly why you've enclosed anything in square brackets. should just be:

telnet google.com 80
