Nikon D40 and shooting tethered

According to this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1085 the Nikon D40 is not supported unless it is a Nikon D40x.

if you really want to do it, try nikon's camera control pro 2

go into setup menu on camera and set USB to MTP/PTP not Mass Storage (most likely the problem)
select a project
tether>start session

works for me in Leopard w/ AP 2.1 and 2

can u control the shutter from the computer? how about time lapse? I would be really surprised if aperture supported that.

You can capture from the computer.
Don't know about time lapse... probably not.

FYI I've suggested interval timing to Apple as a feature for Ap's Tethered Shooting. It would be nice not to use Camera Control, ever.

We use a battered D40 for multiple shots and timelapse. It also worked fine straight off with Tethered Shooting in Aperture.

hi, brackenberry, when u say you used D40 for timelapse, what software u using? how did u do it?

Nikon Camera Control Pro works just fine with a D40, and a USB lead, shoots any interval, for as long as you want. Nothing else needed, but have not used in some time. I'd rather use the same software that was storing my pictures, eg Ap. I'll be wanting to use a D300 for future outdoor work in that department, the facility being built-in, hence no laptop outside alone at night:-).
