Imap and push

Imap and "push" are two seperate things. While Push requires IMAP, IMAP does not mean Push.

There are two mail server protocols - POP3 and IMAP. POP3 is a one way system - the device downloads the mail from the server but does not transmit back any information on what has happened to the mail (read, moved, deleted, replied to, etc). IMAP is a two way protocl. It downloads the mail AND sends info back to the server about what has happened to the mail. IMAP is most useful for a server mail box accessed by mulitple computers/devices.

Now, PUSH is a protocol in which a device says idly connected to an IMAP server. When the server receives and email, the device is immediately notified and then said device downloads the message. This is a specific protocol that not all IMAP servers support. In fact, Gmail does not support it yet. Currently, Yahoo is the only true PUSH account for the iPhone.

It is possible to set up iCal to connect to Gmail via IMAP. The method should be listed on the Gmail site. As for your GoDaddy accounts, it would depend on whether or not they are POP3 or IMAP.
