Epson Printer Utility can't be found

I have an Epson printer. I keep the Epson Printer Utility in my dock, because I use it a lot. The version in my dock is 2.12. The version in the finder is 1.23. I threw the 1.23 in the trash. The version in my dock still works, but I can't find it anywhere on my hard disk. I would like to add it to my husband's dock, but it can not be found even with spotlight. He had 1.23 in his dock, but it didn't work even before I threw it in the trash.

Have you ever heard of an app that is not in your computer but still runs on it? Grrr.

Now what do I do?

I had the same trouble recently, and so looked to see where mine is now. What I found was an alias in my APPLICATIONS folder that pointed to:

Previous System/Previous System1/Library/Printers/Epson/Utilities
I have now copied the original to my Apps folder. My current version is 1.86 for a C86 Printer.

If not, I would recommend downlaoding hte latest drivers from EPSON and it should install with that.

Thank you, but I don't have a previous system. I will try downloading new drivers. Let you know if that worked.

Hello Peggie:

Downloading the most current driver should address your issue. However, I was intrigued that a search did not reveal something that is on your system. You might try reindexing your hard drive as described in this knowledge base article:

I went to the Epson website. They didn't have any drivers, but I sent them an email and they got back to me with the location my printer utility could be found. Hd > library > printers > Epson > utility > Epson printer utility. With that information I was able to add the utility to my husband's dock.

The crazy thing was that spotlight couldn't find it.

Hey Barry,

Reindexing the the hard drive worked. I can now find the utility. I went on line to Epson and, although they didn't have any newer print drivers, they did tell me where the utility was located. That didn't however answer the question of why a search of my hd couldn't find it, so thank you very much!

Hi Peggie:

You are most welcome. I have noted that, for whatever reason, when a search (either with spotlight or find - both use the same search engine) does not locate something that is really there, the problem usually points to a problem that occurred when the drive was first indexed.

Usin Peggy's clues I found mine. It's version 2.14. But it seems to crash on launch every time.

Is there a direct link to where a newer version can be downloaded (The Epson site keeps looping me around as I try to find it)?

Delete the /Library/Printer/Epson directory. Then reboot from the Tiger install disc and install the Epson printer drivers. See KB 301229, Custom installs in Mac OS X 10.4.

I have the same trouble with 10.3.9. and an Epson SC740 and 777i. I tried all the stuff above, but stiil can't find that driver. Actually, I CAN find it, but the printer installer can't. As far as I know, the hard drive can't be indexed in 3.9, but I did do a permissions repair. I also passed the Epson file in the library of a working iMac to the g4, but the results were the same. The printer is in the list, but it can't find the driver. The iMac has identical software, and everything looks the same.
