So, I am trying to install my logic 8 upgrade and its not taking my **** serial number? I've typed it over and over 20 different times, in different ways, caps, no caps, dashes, no dashes and nothing is working? What the **** do I do now? Is my software broken?
From what I've seen, the serial mechanism changed in 8.0.1 to reject illegal or keygen generated serial numbers that had been circulated for 8.0.0. People who had therefore been using illegal copies of LP 8.0.0 had problems when they updated to 8.0.1 as their serial numbers no longer worked with the updated version.
If you have a valid serial number, and are sure you are typing it in correctly, and it's not being accepted, then contact Apple who should get it sorted out for you. There have been a few instances of this posted here before.
Note - if this is an upgrade, make sure you are typing in the correct serial - if it's an upgrade from Logic Express, you need both the new Logic Studio serial
and the old Logic Express serial number.
Thanks. Yes this is a valid upgrade from pro 7 to pro 8 and I've typed this stupid number every way I can think of. I will be contacting apple, hopefully they can get this figured out.
You do have your XSkey plugged in while installing?
Anyway, call Apple. Seeing as I have no idea where in the world you are, go your your local Apple website, hit contact and get the phone number most applicable to you.
I am having the same problem with my upgrade from LP7 to LP8, and my license is Academic/ Educational. What should I do? The UK website doesn't show a proper phone line or way to contact for support. What are the issues with this type of license?
Academic versions are unfortunately not upgradable - you cannot apply a Logic 7 to Logic Studio upgrade to an academic version, it won't work.
You'll need to buy the full retail version of Logic Studio. One of the reasons the Academic versions are cheap is that they do not allow updates to the next major version of the software.
But that must be new. I did the same upgrading from L6 to LP7 before using my Academic license. What do should I do now with all the money spent on this upgrade?
Logic 6 was still an emagic program - Logic 7 was the first Apple-badged version of Logic, and as such was the first version that incorporated the standard Apple upgrade policies, which apply to all their ProApps.
They were fairly generous in allowing 6->7 upgrades, but L7 Academic cannot be upgraded to L8....
I'd contact Apple and try to get a refund, and say you didn't realise they had this upgrade policy.
Apple has a policy about not accepting open software.
However, since you're getting the +exact same thing+, (logic 8), with the only difference being
how to get there (through upgrade or standalone). My advice, ask to talk to a *Logic certified* employee, he'll know what you're talking about and you'll avoid a long frustrating attempt to explain this to a regular employee, (who will endlessly repeat the 'not accepting open software' to no avail).
Well, I went to the store today and - after some 10 minutes into discussing with a sales manager that kept repeating they wouldn't take it open and that I should have checked the "requirements and labels" saying it coudln't be upgraded (I wonder where it says that) - this person agreed to take it back and I had to buy the package full price. It went ok, but I think there should be some kind of notice about this. I only found out about it here!
I wanted to know now if LP8 is running properly on 10.5.2 and if I have to keep the original version without upgrading it to 8.1 (or whatever that is out now) for the time being.
