Bigfoot? Spyware?

My PB G4 just started showing a window upon awaking that searches directory and connects to "Bigfoot."

Also, I just had my first ever pop-up.

Did I pick up a spyware? How do I eliminate this issue?

My antivirus and Tiger updates are current...

Thomas:

Welcome to Discussions.

As far as I know it is not possible for a spyware program to be installed on your computer without your authorizing it. Your OS will ask you if you want to accept it, and you will have to either enter your password, or if you installed withouth a password, you will have to hit enter or return.

What or who Bigfoot is and what it is doing on your computer I don't know, but, to the best of my knowledge, unless you downloaded an email attachment, it is likely not a virus or spyware.

Bigfoot.com is an email server...kind of like Hotmail or Yahoo only paid. Check your SMTP and network settings and I'll bet you find a "Bigfoot" location or SMPT server setting. How it got there is anyone's guess...maybe you unknowingly opened an email attachment or something. It might also have been something connected with your ISP...new one recently? Deleting the location and or SMTP server setting should eliminate the problem but you might want to look through your emails and see if there are any with attachments that you are unsure of. If you find any, delete them. As to the "pop-up" please provide a bit more info as to what exactly it is (was). This is not too big a worry...no viruses that can eff up OSX in the was they can windoze.
