Warranty Not Honored For Non-activated iPhones?

Hello,

Is it true that Apple will not honor warranties against manufacture defects for iPhones that have not been activated? I went back to the store where I purchased my iPhone from, and that was exactly what I was told, however, the store manager could not find where it explicitly states that under the terms and conditions for warranty. Can someone please clarify this?

Robert,

I don't know if this is of any use but I too have had problems where the speaker died and there was no sound...I am also in the same situation with regards warranty.

I did some digging around online and managed to find lots of other cases where people have had the same problem...no sound out the speaker. It turns out it was a firmware/hardware glitch where for some reason the iPhone defaults to headphones as the sound output and cuts off output from the external speaker.

I managed to follow the instructions to get it working again: simply connect a set of headphones to the iPhone and then remove. Try this several times and it should reset the default to speaker.

I don't know if this might work for you, but it's worth a try...anything rather than taking the iPhone apart. It is a complete swine...believe me!

Hope this might help and good luck

Regards

Paul

Thanks Paul, I've tried that method too, but it's not the plug thats dead, it's the speaker. Believe me, I've tried everything...I've even email Mr. Jobs himself! Nothing works. If I were in the US I would b*tch and moan 24/7.

I haven't gotten around to try replacing the speaker myself (well get someone to do it). I'm gonna hold out for iPhone 2.0 and then I'll attempt the surgery. If all goes well, my wife will get an iPhone 😀

One of the advantages of living in the UK is the Sale of Goods Act.
A manufacturers warranty typically runs for 12 months, and Apple is no exception.
However the Sale of Goods Act stipulates, among other things, that a manufacturer and retailer must sell goods of merchantable quality. And it ignores the 12 month period.
Apple has repaired and or replaced free of charge faulty products in the UK that have been up to 5 years old.
