AJA io HD Capture Problem

Hi
I just upgraded my edit system to a Mac Pro and AJA's io HD. I'm having a problem capturing 8bit to DV. The lip sync is off by a second unless I trash my preferences before opening the capture tool (each time). I did a search on the discussion site and didn't see anything like this.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Are you running with the latest drivers for the Io? If not try that for starters.

Thanks Jerry. Yes I'm using the latest. I was on the phone with aja yesterday for some time. We determined it's probably something with FCP. I'm thinking of doing a reinstall of FCP Studio 2. What's the best way of doing that?

Do it as a clean install... backup what you want to save from your startup disk, and erase and install OS X, update it all the way, then install studio over that and update it all the way.

As a troubleshooting step, rather than trashing your prefs, in a Finder window, Lock the FCP prefs files. That might prove whether one of the prefs files is being changed and corrupted during capture. In fact, if you lock them one by one, you might be able to ID the problem file.

Note that you will not be able to save any preference changes you make while the prefs files are locked, but you can make changes which will be accomplished in RAM temporarily. So, do this only as a test.

Thanks to all for your thoughts. I've discovered a weird work around for now... When I reopen the capture tool, I need to physically unplug the firewire 800 cable from io hd to my computer. After plugging back in, lip sync is restored... Seems like a problem with my new io hd box?

I wasn't expecting a completely smooth transition but...

You're not using FireWire drives are you?

That would be a no no unless you add a FireWire card to connect them to... can't share the bus with the Io HD... it really want's to have all the bandwidth to itself.

Nope.

I have 3 TB internal to my computer. ioHD is only firewire devise connected during capture.

L. Shea - I've experienced this several times with several of our Final Cut Users. It would happen in certain projects and not others. Very strange! Anyways, after trashing prefs and everything else under the sun, we had no luck. Some users actually had to create a brand new project, because even new sequences under the original project had the same issue.

If you ever find out the real cause, I'd LOVE to know. AJA always told me it was strictly a FC issue, but after seeing the post about unplugging the AJA box, that's got me a little concerned that it could be an AJA issue.
