Screen Colours Inverted

I have a Macbook Pro 15" and yesterday when i turned it on the colours for the most part were inverted on the internal screen. I tried it on an external screen and it works fine. Has this happened to anybody and does anybody know how to fix it? if not i will take it in to get looked at.

thanks

Was just on a thread about the inverter cable on the iBook forum, so it was fresh in my mind. It's actually the second MBP with this problem I've run across--the other guy was deployed and couldn't do anything about his right away. He didn't have an external, so was going to try UA to get it back to normal until he could take it in. Never heard back how that went.

Hello.

I got it working again!

I did this http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238

*Resetting PRAM and NVRAM*

1. Shut down the computer.
2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Turn on the computer.
4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
6. Release the keys.

Yeah, inverter cable sounds right. I don't think its the video card or logic board, for two reasons: (1) when the problem started, it was caused by moving the screen (it is now permanent) and (2) an external display is fine. To me it seems the likely fix is a cable replacement... with a screen replacement a possibility I suppose. We will see. Its terrible to have something like this when you've owned a machine 3 weeks, but hey, it happens.

I am going to DC this weekend and will take it to the Arlington Apple Store.. Rather do that than take it to the local "Authorized Service Center." I will make an appointment - I am hoping if its a cable, its something they'll be able to fix if I leave it with them for the day.

Thanks for the info all!

PS: I tried resetting both the PRAM and the SMC for kicks - no change.

It is a bummer, but the good thing is that the Mac is under warranty and it won't cost you anything but some time. On a new machine, the cable was probably damaged during the assembly process and just took a bit of time to fail completely. As far as I know, these things are still assembled by humans, and when humans are involved, there's always the chance of an error.

You might want to call Apple about this, as I don't know if they would stock the cable at the store or not. You might be able to arrange for it to be there, or it might be better to send it off in the special box they send you. From what I hear, turnaround is really fast. I agree with letting Apple fix it rather than an authorized service center.

Good luck!

Hello...
Isn't about Universal Access, I've tried before.
When I pluged the external monitor, the image was just fine as it must be!
The grey 'apple' at the beggining was inverterted too... even booting on windows, the same poor quality image...
So, I reseted the NRAM and VRAM... and got lucky, this issue was driving me crazy!

PS. about a 40 minutes ago, the same ocurried again, so I did the reset and all things gonna working again.

I'm am not sure what can cause this... I'm afraid that this issue become frequently or worst, permanente...

Not sure either. The one picture I was able to see did not look like the problem we were discussing elsewhere on the thread. You look like you have a different problem. Have you tried running the Apple Hardware test? If you get an error code, it would indicate a hardware problem.

If the AHT doesn't show up anything, it might be worth reposting your question on the Leopard forum. I really don't know if this is a hardware problem or a software problem. But it does sound like a persistent problem that needs to be diagnosed and fixed.

Good luck!

Hey it the deployed guy... lol. well for 2 more weeks anyway!

I tried the UA setting and it didnt work 😟 So i was just going to wait until i got back to germany and take it in to the closet apple store.

but i was bored here at work and thought i would see if anyone else may have reported the same problem. I am going to try to reset the PRAM tonight and report back tomorrow on how it goes.
