Recording Yamaha P200 into GB

Seems like everyone has a hard time connecting. Here is my situation, can someone please Help.
Equipt is as follows:

Electronic Piano =Yamaha P200 with Midi -in & out (switchable on/off set ON)

Edirol (Roland) USB Midi Interface UM-1EX (USB indicator is ON) with the following settings:
Properties = TX 16channels, Midi Beat Clock (on) Midi Time Code (on)
RX= 16channels Midi Beat Clock (on) Midi Time Code (on)
Features General Midi (ON) Midi Machine Control (on)
Ports = 1 In/Out
(Latest Driver Downloaded from Edirol for Leopard forgot to mention running Leopard)
Test of Midi out (of UM-1) activates midi out LED on UM-1

GarageBand Preferences: Audio/Midi says Midi status= 1 Midi i/p detected.
Settings Audio O/P selected to Built-in O/P
Audio I/P selected to System Settings.

GB Pref. Advance = All set to Automatic

With all this, pressing record in GB and playing keyboard does not record or show any response.

Can anyone Help. did not get any satisfaction at Mac Genius Bar. I'm so frustrated.
Have also downloaded driver from Yamaha

iMac Core Duo, Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Strangedog
Took a chance ( because the Cables are clearly marked with direction flow) and tried reversing.
Result strange. With keyboard switched off. USB interface sent pulses to Keyboard as indicated by Midi in led on usb interface,
Keyboard response powered Keyboard Midi indicator and audible click of internal switching as though another midi device was driving.
Somehow I don't think this is right but a nice try. I can't believe that someone at Apple can not solve this because this is the whole appeal of GB etc.
Does anybody have an in.
