Playing Age og empires2 on Macbook Pro

This has nothing to do with the OS or the Firmware. I was using AOE 2 on my MBP just fine for a few weeks and was running OS X 10.5.3. One day the game froze and I force quit it... ever since then I get the error that my graphics card needs to work with direct draw.

It has worked before... I just don't know why it stopped working. I didn't update anything.

I have searched all the other mac related forms about Age of Empires 2 for mac.
Before I did the latest patch the game ran perfectly.
However, once I installed the latest patch the game quits and a dialogue box appears telling me " Could not initialize graphics system. Make sure that your video card and driver are compatible with Direct Draw Error"
Then I click on ok and the game takes me back to my desktop.

So far this is my current understanding: There is no patch for Direct Draw.
Direct Draw is an older driver.
This issue only is for Leopard.
The patch on the Age of Empires 2 website does not work, though it does mention the Direct Draw issue, not however in the Leopard context.

I would love any feedback I could get on this.

I have the same problem, but AOEII is not really worth a lot of trouble. Play it on an older mac if you have one.

ok, i got it guys. go to macsoft's website and download the update (1.0.6)( http://www.destineerstudios.com/support/aoe2.html) after it's done installing, hold command while the game is starting up and deselect the show intro video option.

Man I was really hoping that would work for me, but it didn't.
I'm having the same problem as everyone else here, it used to work find but now I get that error every time, reminds me of vista.
Somebody help!!!

hey bro i downloaded the patch and held down command so the settings came up and did check to use the 256 colors, but it DIDNT work. so i went back to the settings and UNCHECKED the 256 colors. and It Worked. so Try that SLANGMAN . see if that will work for you
