Apple TV 2.02 Released

Just installed on my ATV. No idea what it does. I don't notice anything new.

I downloaded the new update on two of my 3 ATV. I have no skipping but I noticed that the MOVIE COVER ART takes anywhere from 2-5 seconds to appear. Prior to the latest update, it was instantly coming up.

Im using wireless N. Had no problems with 2.01 but now 2.02 has caused some delays in the cover art showing up.

Anyone notice this?

THanks Ill give that a try...

But I dont knwo if its me, but it just seems to be alot less responsive in the MOVIES section ( Im streaming from my Windows Home Server ).

What I mean by that is that it appears that its taking longer for the movie to start....when I rewind, it takes longer for the streaming to catch up...and the forwarding seems to stop alot faster than prior....

Is anyone experiencing this with the 2.02 update?

Speciafically, streaming?

First time you access it, needs to be cached on the ATV from iTunes.

That seems to be the case, but it's a big step back from 1.0/1.1 when things appeared instantly iwth synced or streamed content - I hate the placeholder image before the thumbnail appears as when you scroll through a list the icon flickers when changing from dark placeholder to colour thumbnail.

yup it does take slightly longer to start the movie.. i think Apple may have done this on purpose so that more of the movie is cached before you press play and to relieve any potential glitches while streaming.

don't know if you've watched your network activity during a stream but it is actually ***** the entire file over to the appleTV in the 1st 10-15 mins or so (syncing it really). if you pause it's still sucking it over. on my system i see 5-6MB/s then it drops to nothing after about 10-15 mins...

if i start a movie, pause and come back.. network activity is zero if it's past the 10-15min download time.

have notice a difference in 2.0.2.. the appleTV is less chatty... in 2.0.1 the apple TV would constantly be sending packets back to the router but it 2.0.2 packets in the reverse direction are zero during a stream... this maybe some of the reason for improve streaming performance.

i guess if you're having streaming issue you could just press play let it start, then pause it, walk away for a bit and do something (letting the movie download to the appleTV) the press play... kind of a way to sync a movie without setting it to sync in iTunes.

i seem to get two different situations... seems to depend on how long the wait is for the icon to appear.. for the regular wait, i.e. if you haven't loaded/stopped on the item before.. you just get the placeholder shortly followed by the image, but with slightly longer wait i see the image appear out of the bottom left corner of the screen, move across the screen to its correct location.. thought that was kinda weird the 1st time i saw it...

It's been a couple days since the 2.0.2 release and my ATV still can't find the update. I'm on a wireless connection and I can stream my movies and music no problem as well as stream movie previews. Anyone know why my ATV isn't finding the update?

Off hand, I'd say it is not seeing the internet. Check your router settings.

I have no idea why they are saying this, as my options offer up to 720p/1080i at best (as it has since version 1). I am using an HDMI cable to my 1080p Panasonic plasma."

Yeah, still no 1080p HDMI output for me either. I have a Westinghouse 42" 1080p native monitor and only see 720p/1080i for HD output in the aTV video settings. I've read that the AppleTV pings the TV on startup for it's "EDID" identification and if the aTV doesn't recognize the response it won't allow for 1080p output even if your TV is 1080p native. Frustrating, but I don't know of any fix except to somehow spoof your TVs EDID or have the aTV be more lenient in what it excepts during the HDMI handshake.

I also can't use 720p because the aTV won't wakeup from sleep in that setting... I can hear audio etc. so it's clearly an HDMI handshake issue... been around since Take 2 update. 1.1 720p worked fine.

Stuck in 1080i world for now until I can get a new TV or Apple can fix these issues. Anyone know how to reports things like this to the AppleTV engineers?
