Apple TV 2.02 Released

+I've read that the AppleTV pings the TV on startup for it's "EDID" identification and if the aTV doesn't recognize the response it won't allow for 1080p output even if your TV is 1080p native. Frustrating, but I don't know of any fix except to somehow spoof your TVs EDID or have the aTV be more lenient in what it excepts during the HDMI handshake.+

What a bunch of crap. I have a 65" Panasonic plasma that's just about a year old. Why Apple TV would have a problem with these TVs is a complete mystery to me. Maybe ATV supports only HDMI 1.3 (which would be RIDICULOUS). I think my TV is only 1.2, but I have to check now. Or maybe it has a problem with my HDMI switcher (XtremeMac).

Every other device I use (Xbox 360 and PS3, specifically) supports 1080p and has NO problem with my TV/switcher, so Apple really has no excuse here.

I guess I'm missing something here (I have an old 1080i TV) but why does this matter? There is no 1080p content for the ATV is there?

you aren't missing anything really... AppleTV only supports files containing 720p of resolution so basically all you are doing is choosing if you want appleTV to do the up-conversion before it gets to your TV or if you want you TV to do it... i guess if your TV is just terrible at the up-conversion to 1080p then appleTV 1080p up-conversion may have some value.
