Bluetooth Keyboard/Mouse combo causes Kernel Panic

Bluetooth Keyboard/Mouse combo causes Kernel Panic. One out of 5-10 times I use the bluetooth mouse or keyboard the computer give a kernel panic. It seems to occur more frequently if I attempt to wake the computer with the keyboard or mouse, however, even if I wait until the MacBook is awake, then use them, it happens.

I'm running Leopard 10.5.2 on a Macbook (13", 2.16 GHz, 2GB RAM, 120 GB HD). I have all updates installed as of today (April 15, 2008).

I purchased a bluetooth keyboard and mouse from bestbuy. It was the only one they had. It's a Rocketfish Model RF-BTCMBO. The mouse and the keyboard are also purchasable as seperate models which are:
Keyboard: RF-BTKB2
Mouse: RF-BTMSE2
Bluetooth Dongle: RF-BTAPDT (which I dont use as Bluetooth is on the MacBook already)

I've checked on the Rocketfish website and they do not have a driver for anything but windows.

Is anyone else having these issues, is it specific to my model bluetooth keyboard and mouse? Is this all Bluetooth keyboards and mice with 10.5.2? Is there another driver or patch I can use? Ideas?

It's defiantly a little flaky. I don't receive Kernel Panics, but if I try to shut off the Bluetooth from the menu bar icon, the menu bar icon locks up, and I receive the spinning circle. Nothing else locks up though, just the menu bar. This kit was designed for a windows computer though, so I can understand why its not perfect.

I am using the mouse only, on a MacBook Pro (Penryn, 2.4 GHz, 2GB RAM, 200 GB HD,10.5.2 with latest updates as of 4/16)

I have been using the Mouse (RF-BTMSE2) since I purchased the computer and it has always been a little sketchy, but I originally purchased it for a PC which it worked fine on, as it's supposed since thats what it was designed for.

I have been checking periodiocally for a fix/update/driver, just so its not as flaky but not come across one yet. The closest I have come was a program called SteerMouse. It let me set the sensitivity, as well as speed, of the mouse. In addition it enabled me to use the Left/Right Tilt wheel function which I set as browser forward/back commands (cmd+left arrow/cmd+right arrow).

Hoped that helped a little, I don't know if it will fix your Kernel Panic issue.

Not sure why you are using a BT keyboard. I'm using a stock Logitech V270 BT mouse with my 4 month old MB from day one. Can't stand touchpads. IMHO, the best built-in pointing devise is the IBM thumbstick.

My Loditech mouse was very easy to setup and for the most part, has been trouble free. They are available on the internet for less than $30. The only occasional trouble I have is sometimes when waking the computer up, the BT mouse is "stuck". I have it setup to disregard the touchpad IF a mouse is detected. In this case, it's like "Catch 22". Neither works. Usually if I wait long enough the mouse will start to work, but I don't like to wait. One quick solution is to turn the BT mouse off and wait a few seconds.

In this configuration, the Touchpad will the operate since a BT mouse is not found. I then run the touchpad mouse up to the BT icon, turn the BT mouse off in the pulldown menu, turn the BT mouse back on with the switch on the bottom, turn the BT mouse back on in the pulldown menu and it immediately starts working again.

As I said, the above happens infrequently. I suspect a "Mighty Mouse" might be more trouble free, but I don't like the button operation on them.

I am having the same problem - I have the aluminum bluetooth keyboard and bluetooth mighty mouse and a MBP.

it seems to be with the keyboard ONLY however - when the mouse connects I get no problems. When the keyboard connects I get kernel panic.

It was happening about 1/5th of the time and then this morning the computer was panicking every time the keyboard connects. Even during startup - the MBP screen is blue, and I see the green light on the keyboard flash to indicate that it is connecting and the MBP freezes.
