information CD Album Art, Liner Notes, etc.

Hi:

Is this on the CDs when you buy them, of is this additional infromation that must be downloaded from a database somewhere ? If the information is on the CDs, how do I obtain access to the files...in other words, what do I have to do in order to be able to see the files (art iconms, liner notes, etc.), move them to other folders if need be, view them, etc. What exactly are liner notes ?

Thank you

CDs don't contain artwork, you can either add the artwork manually or if the album is available in the iTunes store you can download it from there. You'll get information on both methods at this link: iTunes 7 for Windows - Adding artwork to songs and other items

if you can't find the album covers you want from iTunes you can get them from various other sources. I find this site is a good source of artwork: CD/Album Cover Art Search from SlothRadio.

Another place for finding suitable artwork is to go to Amazon. You can also locate artwork using Google image search and put the artist or album name. Locate the album from any of those sources, right click on the image and save it to the desktop, once it's there drag it to the iTunes artwork pane. Once you've added the artwork you can either delete the original file or keep it in a folder somewhere in case you need to use it again. Alternatively there are programs like these that help locate artwork: iTunes Art Importer or MP3 Tag

If you have a scanner you can create your own artwork files by scanning the CD cover itself, this is particularly useful when you are dealing with rare recordings.

*What exactly are liner notes ?*

It's the information printed for you to read in your CD booklet. Who played on the CD, where it was made, dedications to the artist's friends and family etc. etc.

Aloha Zevoneer,

Thanks for the info...BUT...clicking on your link..iTunes Art Importer..takes me to...Millionaire Match!!!! 🙂
I used Google to find the correct link.
I have over 42 GB of Music I imported/ripped from CDs in my Libarary into iTunes and what boggles me is the list of over 150 albums I have where I need/needed to find and add artwork. Over 80 of them are on the iTunes site, yet, when I imported the CDs, iTunes said it couldn't find the artwork and still couldn't when I asked it to find album artwork..even when, like JUNO, for example, the artwork is plainly visable on iTunes. What's with that?

On the outside chance that some aapl staff people monitor this board, I want to make a request for ITMS. - LINER NOTES!!!

Jeez. It's so obvious, I'm shocked it hasn't been done.

Words to describe the musicians, the context of the music, an artistic word/poetry from the artist. I'm getting all my music from my ipod and itunes now, but the inavailability of printed material really hampers the study and appreciation of the music.

This is incredibly so for jazz and classical music, but true for all kinds of music. Who are the players? Who's the conductor and the producer? Any interesting instruments or techniques? Without the liner notes, a listener's understanding is limited and stagnant. Not a problem for Bob Dylan music, but the music world is a lot bigger than that. I need the notes displayed on my ipods and iphone as well as computer and apple tv.

I'd see liner notes to be a huge improvement over itunes music store as it is, plus a way to build the community to further distance itunes from the erstwhile competition.

Cover art has been made available nicely. The amount of information contained in the cover art is small. If music is going to thrive, the community of musicians and musically inclined people needs the information.

Pretty Please?

Long N strong

This is such a no-brainer! I would buy tons of music from iTunes if they supplied comprehensive liner note type info, date of recording, personnel playing, and any little nuggets of info to make it more interesting. I've got over 30 Artie Shaw songs on my system and I have no idea who the soloists and when the music was recorded.
C'mon. Please!! My wallet sits waiting.
