dual G4, MDD: Cheapest Core Image graphics card?

I have read some of the comments about graphics cards on various threads, but what I'm after is the cheapest card which supports Core Image and will run on my dual G4 MDD.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi-

It's hard for me to say how the picture will be. It should be fine. The 9700 is a more than basic graphics processor, and the Sony is made to run with analog input.
I don't anticipate any problems....
Will there be blurriness or mis-alignment between the analogue and re-digitizing of the 9700 output?

I would not expect this with any card...... If such did present itself, I would consider either the card or the monitor for the rubbish heap. 😉

Still a pity though that if you have two digital, e.g. DVI, monitors that you have to hook one up to an analogue port. (I have both 20" and 23" Apple alum displays -- although because my desk is small I've only once hooked them both up to a single Mac.)

Historically I've always gotten better results when staying strictly digital. Can't really say now these days with the current crop of monitors and cards....

That's why I like my old modified-G5 9600 Pro which had two digital ports. I guess that's also why I paid through the nose from one of those very rare beasts I spotted on the used market: the OEM ATI 9700 Pro with ADC+DVI. 😉

Hi

Especially with the lower powered cards, the analog conversion did cause some loss in translation.

I tried the VGA on an Acer flat panel (it's connected DVI, though). There wasn't a drastic difference in picture quality. Whether the 9800 or the monitor is responsible for the quality, I can't say
Definitely, though, digital out to digital in is the preferred method......

Too bad dual DVI port cards are so scarce. Sometimes, getting the "good" parts hurts!
