Verifying iPhone software...

I plugged my iphone into my mac to sync and had a message about software update, I clicked ok and a whole process started...fine...but now all I have is a message saying 'verifying new software' and nothing is happening! Has anyone had this? Are there any solutions?

Thanks

eMac, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

How is that an excuse? Every other maker of phones of necessity designs software for Windows as well. We cannot blame Windows for the fact that iPhones have syncing problems given that these other companies do fine. I personally had far fewer syncing problems with my prior Nokia and Blackberry phones in Windows, and this seems to be quite a common experience.

Thanks for the registry tip! Worked for me.

I received the "Verifying updated iPhone Software. . . " message while using an iBook G4 with OS 10.4.11 to update a first generation iPhone from 2.x.x to 3.0.

I resolved the issue using these steps:

1. Force quite iTunes: Please note that the iTunes alias in the dock became corrupt (appears in translucent form with superimposed question mark) IMMEDIATELY upon execution of force quit.

2. When iTunes is no longer running, disconnect iPhone from iBook at USB jack.

3. Restart iBook.

4. When desktop is stable after restart, remove corrupt iTunes icon from dock. Feel free to add a new iTunes icon to the dock at this point.

5. Launch iTunes. When iTunes is stable, reconnect iPhone to iBook at USB jack.

6. iTunes will prompt you to restore the iPhone. Follow prompts as necessary for your desired restoration. Consult help, manuals, or forums as needed.

7. Voila! The iPhone cooperates with iTunes, and all is well.

I've had this problem repeatedly starting with the OS 2.x upgrades on an iPhone 3G, an iPod Touch, and now an iPhone 3GS. Nothing has worked prior to this fix (other than recovering the phone on different computers and/or a trip to the local Apple Store follwed by a lengthy app and music restore from backup). Now I don't have to cringe any more every time Apple comes out with a software update.
Thanks.

GUYS I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND NOW IM GOING TO TELL YOU HOW TO SOLVE IT!

I can only imagine how frustrated you are about this stupid issue. This is how to fix it.
I found out that it has something to do with the network your on, now don't worry I'm not going to ask you to fix or change anything related to your modem, but what you do need to do is download an application which is available for both Windows and Mac. It's called HotSpot Shield and you can easily find it in Google, but just in case here is a link to it for a Mac. http://download.cnet.com/Hotspot-Shield/3000-2092_4-10638005.html.
Trust me it works my IPhone 3GS is half way through the update already.

I hope i have helped, if not please email me on booniprecious@hotmail.com for any other questions or trouble.

I did have this issue and the following steps resolved it. The problem seems to occur from another device that was installed. I my case it was a AT&T aircard

============================
I had the "Verifying iPhone Software" issue on both the 2.2 and 2.2.1 upgrade. I just got off the phone with Apple support and they had me delete the WinXP registry key "TcpWindowSize" located here:

HKEY LOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

Good luck!
