Hey,
I recently deleted a very important conversation, and I remember syncing with itunes before deleting it, so I'm sure it's still saved on my computer. So I would definitely like to use this restore method to retreive those texts back onto my iPhone, although I have a question.

I read that if you hold Shift+Click restore in the summary tab, you can install a previous firmware version, provided you have downloaded that firmware file from the apple website. I currently have 1.1.1 on my iPhone...yes, I know...I still haven't updated lol. And I also have the 1.1.1 fw file still saved on my computer, so would hoding shift+restore and choosing the 1.1.1 file to restore work as well to get my texts back?

Also, when I simply click restore, I get a popup that says "Do you want to back up the settings for the iPhone "my iPhone" before restoring the software?" I'm assuming I would like "Don't Back Up" correct? And when would it give me the option to restore the settings? Or would that happen automatically when I do the restore?

Thanks in advance for any help! I really appreciate it!

there is another way to recover the sms if you synk your iPhone before you deleted the message:

users/"youruser"/library/ApplicationSupport/MobileSync/Backup/74e1339ccff1d01bea e57cea2e053a911df675eb or something similar, this will give you the backup SMS, it's all in one and has many characters, but it's all there; then just open it up with "Text Edit" App.

Well I actually already have them all saved in Microsoft Word because of the MobileSyncBrowser software, but I want to get them back onto my phone, so I just want to know how I should go about restoring so that I can get them back on there. So yeah, if someone can take a look at my last post and get back to me, that would be great! Thanks again!

Hi,

I have the same problem. I deleted some important messages this morning and want to get them back.

My last .mdbackup seems to have all of the messages in it. My question is how do you restore this .mdbackup file to the iPhone?

When I click on the 'Restore' button in iTunes it asks me if I want to backup. As somebody else posted in the thread: Do we need to press the 'Backup' button or the 'Don't Backup' button whe restoring. I presume it is the don't backup button, but any help on this would be great.

Thanks,

You can also access SMS Messages on the iPhone's flash drive via PhoneView. As far as retrieving deleted messages, you might contact Jonathan Zdziarski. He might be able to help you out. He has forensic tools to get data off an iPhone. User uploaded file
