Epson Stylus R200 Job list won't delet

First, the R200 works just fine in Panther. As of today, the R200 works fine once again in OS9 The problem is getting it to work completely in Tiger.

I was on the phone with Epson for over an hour, nice people, helped me get rid of all the Epson files in OS9 and printer now works fine. But, when I asked to get rid of the job list that won't delete (keeps returning) in Tiger, I was told to open Printer Setup Utilities. I was told it was in Tiger>Applications>Utilities. I have NO such file on my Tiger, none that I can find, that is. I was then told, they were afraid to go further with instructions and have me trash all the Epson files for fear I would no longer be able to connect my R200. Apparently, the trashing of the current Epson files would have enabled me to get rid of the job printing list that refuses to be deleted.

So I'm stuck. I ask her how did she think I was able to connect the printer in the first place without the Printer Setup Utilities. She just repeated what she had already told me.

*Is there such a program in Tiger called Printer Setup Utilities?*

*Does anyone know how to get rid of the very long list of jobs waiting to be printed?*

I also did not learn how to print via classic using ClarisWorks 4. This use to work fine.

*Does anyone know how to fix my non printing ClarisWorks?* (To be honest, at times it will print, but only one page, then I have to reboot.)

*Why am I getting the icon PrinterProxy when I try to print in Tiger via Classic?*

I did learn how to make the CD/DVD feature (Epson Print CD) work in Tiger, is anyone wants to know.

Turning to my Mac Friends,

Patt

Thanks BDAqua, installed and didn't find what I was looking for. However, you saved me from asking a different question about Tiger's Spotlight and Find feature. I hoped there was someone besides me that was having trouble with these two options in Tiger. I can't find anything. I sometimes go into Panther just to use the search/find and aim it at Tiger. What were they thinking?

Unfortunately, not having the Printer Setup file/application, I'm still stuck.

Thanks for the tip, hope I can do the same for you some day.

Thanks again BDAQua,

I saw Pacifist mentioned a number of times concerning similar topics.

It still puzzles me. Why, if I was able to install the R200 without a problem, the printer WAS working at first, would there be a problem, if I tossed the Epson files, in possibly NOT being able to install the printer? Is it because the nice folks at Epson only now how to correct a problem one one and that way happens to be with Printer Setup Utility? I can see the printer in system preferences>printer and fax. What is the big deal about Printer Setup Utility? Hate to sound dumb, but I really would like to understand.

Hey BDAqua, you make me smile. When you want answers, you don't mess around. (Darn, where are those smilies when you need one?:)

I purchased the Mac off EBay and it became my husband's. Since it came loaded with programs he would never used, I took the Tiger hard drive and gave him one more to his needs.

I can see an option that allows for a printer to be added, it's the Print & Fax preference. There is, of course, also the "Printer Setup" in that same preference. If knew where all the Epson R200 files were located, I would trash them (noting where they all came from in case I needed to return them) and reinstall from the printer's disc and again, download the proper drivers.

When I started using the Tiger HD, have no desired to leave Panther, I was out of ink for about 2 weeks, so I didn't even try my printer. Like I mentioned, I can use the printer. My complaint is not being able to trash the list of Printing Jobs that were accumulated when I couldn't get an Epson software to print their CD/DVD program. That problem being fixed, I'm still left with the list that would not print. The second problem is getting ClarisWorks to print via Classic more than one time per boot. Perhaps that's a Tiger/Classic oddity and not an Epson thing.

Thanks for your reply.

Just put a space betwen any end & the colon and a dash/minus sign between the colon & right parent! 🙂

When you print from OSX, doesn't an icon show in the Dock for that printer? Is there an Icon on the Desktop for it? That's where jobs are normally deleted from.

We can also search for those temp files by name, I'd get EasyFind, Spotlight won't be reliable...

Hi Again,

Most certainly, there is an printer icon in the dock, and when I click on it, a huge list of jobs that were never printed still linger, returning when ever the window is reopened. When I print using Microsoft Word, I have no problem printing, however, if I print using ClarisWorks via Classic, I can only print once per booting.

I have unplugged and re-plugged the USB printer plug, turned the printer off and on, unplugged the power cord and back on. I did just find two exact R200 print programs so I trashed one. I tried to use EasyFind to locate the un-printed file names lurking in the Printer window, but found nothing. I then opened every folder in Tiger and User areas, looking for the jobs - nothing.

I have 4 choices:

1.Go back to using Panther, where the printer works fine, BTW, I don't think I ever downloaded different drivers for R200 in Panther and I never remember seeing the icon for printerproxy. However, there are some other areas in Panther that are beginning to become obsolete.

2. Find the answer to why ClarisWorks won't print properly. I have a ton of ClarisWorks data, and really don't want to transfer everything over to Word. I can live with the long list of phantom jobs if I have to.

3. Buy the missing Printer setup utility for $29.00 and then go back to Epson for help.

4. Buy two OS Tigers for the two Macs.

Regarding the smilies, I will have to :-/ work on these. But, I didn't know this would work with just any typed text. 8-) Thanks

Thanks for your feedback again,

Patt

Soooo, when that list is up and you highlight one or more of them, does not a Delete button show at top left?

1. I'm on Panther myself at the moment. Just Use Tiger or leopard to help solve problems for others!

2. Perhaps the list of jobs has to do with the one print thing... in any case, we need to eliminate the list before progressing.

3. Huh, do you not have your Install Disk(s)... oh yeah, you got it used! It's only twice the size of the Panther one, but ZIPped up it's only 2.6MB...

You must love a good mystery. Lucky for me.

Yes, I see the delete feature, I select all the jobs and delete them. I have deleted this same list so often, one of us is bound to give up, me or the printer.

Actually, some of the items on the list were placed there when I was trying to print the label on a DVD, but the "Epson Print CD" (name of the software program) would send the label to the printer as though it was to be printed as an 8.5X11 document and not as a label.

IFY, this R200 printer prints onto the CD/DVD disc. Once I got help from Epson, downloaded new drivers, and was told how to insert the CD/DVD tray, which BTW is different from the way the CD/DVD portion prints in OS9, no more phantom letters were sent.

You are right, however, some of the names on the job list did happen when I tried to print using ClarisWorks via Classic. When I print from Tiger using Word, the name of what I'm printing goes to the top of the job list, but it goes away when the document prints.

When I click the print option, the printer icon shows up in the dock, but it always has the red stop signal. I have to open the printer window and click the printer icon at the top, which also has the red stop signal, and change the red signal to the green (go) signal, then what I have just tried to print starts printing. I have to repeat this same ritual each and every time I want to print. The same is true for trying to print ClarisWorks via Classic, but nothing actually gets printed. Some of the files that didn't get printed are named TemporaryCustom PSFile which I don't know to what it is referring. I have 40 jobs that won't delete. This might be a record. :o)

Thanks for hanging in there,

Patt

LOL, quite the opposite, I can't stand a mystery at all, I just have to find a solution to every problem or my mind churns on it as I toss & turn in my "sleep"! 🙂

OK Patt, I think were on the road to relief for both of us here. 🙂

I'm not on Tiger at the moment, but search for these files and drag them to the desktop...

com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist
com.apple.print.PrintCenter.plist
com.apple.print.FaxPrefs.plist

And any of these...

/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.print.Cache.<12 digit number>.plist

Then reboot.

If Spotlight can't find hem all, then I'd get EasyFind...
