SONY XDCAM Transfer into Final Cut Pro 6

Hi,

I need help tonight....

I just got my XDCAM EX1 a week ago and my Final Cut Pro 6 today. I am using a MacBook Pro with Mac Os X(10.4.11)

I downloaded all the software from the Sony XDCAM EX 1 CD's: Sony XDCAM Clip Browser.

Then, I downloaded the online software: Sony XDCAM Transfer.

When I insert my SxS card in the laptop, I can easily preview my clips in the Clip Browser.

Although, in the software XDCAM Transfer, all my clips are there, though I CANNOT transfer any of them. In the viewer, it says No Media.

I also downloaded the latest version of Quicktime, since I thought it had something to do with MP4.

Now, how do I transfer my clips from my SxS, using XDCAM Transfer into Final Cut Pro.

Thank you very much in advance

Cheers

Charles

copy the file (MP4) into a folder on your hard disk a BVAP folder and rename the clip with the file name of the original file in the BVAP removing the original file (MP4).
Sorry if my explanation isn't that clear !

your basically replacing the MP4 file in the folder.

Hope this helps it does work and I've saved day's of work

Andy, here's a weird thing.

The BPAV folder is accessible in the usual way in the finder, but when I navigate to it from the xdcam transfer interface, it is greyed out and unavailable????

V frustrating this, but I am clearly not alone.

I fly to my location on Sunday so I am very nervous about all this. Maybe I'll have to shoot lean...

Hey Paul,
I wish I could be more help but whilst I've used XDCAM HD for a long time now I have zero hands on with the EX. My best suggestion to you would be to take your question to the dvinfo XDCAM EX forum as there are many many folks there who are shooting with the EX and posting with FCP. You should also post your question to the Creative Cow FCP forum as there is at least one regular and helpful poster there (Rafael) who is shooting with the EX and posting with FCP.
You're right to be concerned about heading off on location without a confirmed workflow with which you are completely comfortable. Go ahead and post at these other forums (you will have to register to post but they are great resources and its worth the trouble) .

Paul,

Just a simple question for verification. Is the file structure like the following example chain: (These are just random names)

Hard Drive/Another Folder/Day 1 Shoot/BPAV

And then if it is similar, in the XDCAM Transfer program, are you selecting the Day 1 Shoot folder (or similar)? You cannot select the BPAV folder in the transfer program, only the folder above it, in this example, it would be the 'Day 1 Shoot' Folder.

Hi,

I'm just wondering if you could share with me the file structure that worked for you. Right now, here is my file structure. "Card1InPark" --> CLPR --> Then it's a series of folders that have numbers e.g."174 000201" --> Then inside those folders are 5 files, a .mp4, .smi, .ppn, .xml, .bim. I was given this footage from the company that shot the project. There doesn't seem to be a BPAV folder. Should I make one? If so, where in the file structure should it exist and what should be in it? I can't seem to find a clear explanation anywhere of what the correct file structure should be for the XDCAM EX footage. Thank you for your help. If you can help me with this, your Good Karma count will sky rocket. Sky ROCKET!
