Spotlight not indexing network drive

we have a mountable network drive here in the office and spotlight will not index it. Is this a limitation or a bug i am facing?

Thanks for all your help.

Hi Peter, not certain if it's a limitation or not, (I'm guessing it is), because the first thing I do on any Install/Setup, is to completely disable Spotlight.

I'd get EasyFind, Spotlight won't be reliable...

Near the bottom of the page.

Not as fast for searching for File Contents, but far more reliable, and can do Network searches. 🙂

I've been trying for a month to get Spotlight to index an internal drive connected to an Acard ATA133 PCI card in my Quicksilver, with no luck, even following the Terminal commands recommended in other posts on this topic. For me, searching for invisible files on this drive showed a file that, to my best recollection, had a name beginning with DO NOTINDEX before the dot and extension. Common sense suggested I delete it, and I did. Then I logged out and back in to my user account and immediately noted the pulsing dot in the center of Spotlight's magnifying glass icon in the menu bar. It's indexing again 🙂

Don't know if your problem is connected to the same file, but you might care to look.
Happy hunting.
