Wired Mighty Mouse - pointer randomly jumps to the corner

On a regular basis, while moving the mouse pointer around the screen, the pointer jumps to the corner of the screen. Usually the pointer jumps to the upper right corner of the screen, but I think it has jumped to other corners also. I do not believe I am clicking any of the buttons on the keyboard or keys on the keyboard when this happens. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I do not have access to another mouse to try and see if changing mice would help.

That's an easy one. 🙂 Just wet a paper towel with some rubbing alcohol -- water might work too, but not nearly as well -- turn the mouse over, and rub the scrollball vigorously on the wet paper towel for 10 or 20 seconds. Wait a few seconds for the alcohol to dry, and you'll find that scrolling all directions works fine. (This question has been asked hundreds of times here.)

I'm noticing the same symptom: the pointer will jump to the corner of the screen without warning. But in my case it's tougher to diagnose the cause, because:

1. It's happening with not one, but two Mighty Mice connected to the same MacBook Pro at different times, the mouse I use at work and the mouse I use at home.
2. I use solid color mousepads in both locations.
3. It started happening the same day in both locations. I noticed it during the day at work, then to my surprise it started happening that evening.

I would normally be the first to blame the problem on an optical tracking issue. But this set of circumstances definitely argues for something in the system! Anyone else seen anything like it?

I have a Logitech BT mouse I use with my laptop, I could try using it to see if the problem arises with it. At the moment I'm very annoyed with Apple as my brand new iMac came without the iSight working, brand new out of the box, I'm not sure how something like that can even happen. I took it to the store and after making me wait for two hours they couldn't fix it and they didn't have the part in hand as well, which means I'll have to repeat the exercise and wait for a few days before they repair it.
