That's an easy one. 🙂 Just wet a paper towel with some rubbing alcohol -- water might work too, but not nearly as well -- turn the mouse over, and rub the scrollball vigorously on the wet paper towel for 10 or 20 seconds. Wait a few seconds for the alcohol to dry, and you'll find that scrolling all directions works fine. (This question has been asked hundreds of times here.)

My Mighty Mouse had a tracking problem on a particular white surface. It was strange... the pointer would jump around the screen when on that surface. Using a mouse pad made it track properly.

The optical tracking sensor on the MM is very sensitive and doesn't like wood grain, glass or wildly printed mouse pads. To test try using a solid blue, gray or black pad with a matte finish, or a mouse pad designed for an optical mouse.

I'm noticing the same symptom: the pointer will jump to the corner of the screen without warning. But in my case it's tougher to diagnose the cause, because:

1. It's happening with not one, but two Mighty Mice connected to the same MacBook Pro at different times, the mouse I use at work and the mouse I use at home.
2. I use solid color mousepads in both locations.
3. It started happening the same day in both locations. I noticed it during the day at work, then to my surprise it started happening that evening.

I would normally be the first to blame the problem on an optical tracking issue. But this set of circumstances definitely argues for something in the system! Anyone else seen anything like it?

I seem to be having the same issue, I don't believe this is a tracking issue as the mouse only jumps to the exact same points in the corners. Getting rid of the mouse pad and using my bare wooden desk seems to help, but doesn't solve the problem.

Glad to hear there are other experiencing the problem though ... I wonder what's causing it? Have you tried a non-Apple mouse? I may have one laying around here somewhere to test with myself....

I have a Logitech BT mouse I use with my laptop, I could try using it to see if the problem arises with it. At the moment I'm very annoyed with Apple as my brand new iMac came without the iSight working, brand new out of the box, I'm not sure how something like that can even happen. I took it to the store and after making me wait for two hours they couldn't fix it and they didn't have the part in hand as well, which means I'll have to repeat the exercise and wait for a few days before they repair it.

I couldn't get on with the mighty mouse from first having my MAC, so I reverted to my old Belkin USB optical mouse. I've occasionally had the pointer jump too, with both mice, but it really doesn't happen that often for me to find it a problem. x
