Problem scanning with hp psc 2110 all-in-one

I am trying to scan using an hp psc 2110 all-in-one and I keep getting an error message that the scanner can not be found. I can print and copy just fine, just no scanning. I tried reinstalling the hp drivers from the Leopard dvd with no luck and there are drivers on the hp site. Any ideas?

Thanks!

talsop - thanks so much for the post! I too am trying to help my mother scan again with HP 2110 after an archive install.

The link you posted is now an article with no downloads. Does anyone have a solution other than reinstalling 10.4, finding the HP CD - installing the older scanner SW and then re-upgrading to 10.5 and moving in the user account?

I'll post again if we attempt to run the installer under 10.5...

In the mean time if anyone has a link to a page from HP that allows me to download the latest scan software from HP that would be great. I tried searching scanjet and all the combinations of macintosh scanners - but even those pages only have windows driver downloads... Ugh.

Ugh. HP's web site is not too easy to use sometimes.

From the link I posted above, click the "Software and Driver Downloads" link on the left. Next, click "MAC OS X" for the operating system. Finally, click "Software for HP PSC 1200 Series - Mac OS X v10.3 and v10.4 (Universal)" and I think you'll get what you need.

This is the direct link for the download from HP, this should take you right there but if not follow the steps above.

I've used my scanner several times and it works with this software. One thing to note, the Scan button on the printer itself doesn't trigger a scan. I have to open the software and start the scan from there.

Good luck!

I tried and found this solution to work in 10.5.3

First: get the latest software for 2110;
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-42166-1 &lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=79488&os=219&lang=en

Then mount the dmg: 2100 790EN.dmg and launch the installer and when it is about to finish installing, you will get a notice that trap monitor has unexpectedly quit then click ignore. quit installer, set up assistant will pop up for you, it may not find 2110 so quit the setup assistant.

The software are installed fine but won't find the scanner though... but do the next step

Get the software for DeskJet F4280 AIO;
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-58668-1 &lc=en&cc=us&os=219&product=3390949&dlc=en

mount the dmg: HP Installer_DJF4200v9.7.1.dmg and lanuch, it will ask you for the device, select "device not listed" but the second time it ask you to pick a device shown as listed, pick the only one shown then continue to finish installing... when done.. it will attempt to start the HP Setup Assistant. It won't find the PSC at all so quit the HP Setup Assistant

then go to HP folder inside the application directory and then open Device Utilities and drag "HP Setup Assistant" to desktop or to trash but don't empty it yet.

then back to 2100 790EN.dmg and mount it and don't run the installer but do "Show Package Contents" then open "Contents then "Sub Installers" then "Setup" then run the "Setup" installer
It will install the HP Setup Assistant is specific for 2110 not the F4280

When done, quit the installers.. You may trash the HP Setup Assistant that is on desktop and empty it.

Then go to HP folder then open Device Utilities folder and run HP Setup Assistant, it will find 2110 and continue finishing setting up.. then NOW you have Leopard compatible softwares! Now try HP Scan Pro and enjoy!

I hope this is clear 🙂 Have a great week! I have been racking my brain on finding a way to get it work in Leopard and found the solution! I am like why can't they update the installer to newer one and fix the trap monitor or whatever..

I will continue to use this software I Installed till HP release a official software for 2110 then I'll uninstall and install that but until I am enjoying my solution now.

Let me know how you all fares after this! Cheers!

This actually worked for me!!! I followed everything you said, step-by-step and success!

One problem though that I can't seem to figure out; I like to scan straight from Adobe Photoshop CS3. On my other computers, Photopshop automatically detects the scanner and it is listed under the import menu, but for some reason, the scanner is not listed there after I was able to finally get the computer to detect the scanner. Is there any way you know of that I can get this scanner to work in Photoshop as well?

Thanks so much for your help with this, I am so glad you were able to solve this problem, saving me from having to go out and buy a new scanner!

HALLE--!@#$%^&*--LUJAH!!!!!!!
HP should be shot in the collective head. For YEARS they keep pushing new versions of the same tired software that WORKS FINE with older devices, but they're too lazy and stupid to do more than post their moronic drivel on support pages instead of simply adding easy device support for older devices into new software. Anyone STUPID enough (like I was ONCE - back before Carly ruined the company) to buy HP printers, be warned and go with anything else (OK, Lexmark is pretty awful too, ESPECIALLY with Mac support). Forget trying to get the clueless $5/hr. (probably even less in India) support jokers to have any idea - they just copy and paste useless generic snippets into replies and don't even listen to (or read) your original issues...
Of course, if you have a 2210, then you may also remember in OS 9/10.2 how it used to refuse to print AT ALL and say that the ink was EMPTY when it was half-full and the same cartridges would print thousands more pages on a Windows box. What a joke! HP is a shell of its former glory - even in printing.
As we've seen here, with some simple tweaks, the software they claim will not work CAN work, but it takes someone with time and knowledge to do it and let us know (but still - what a waste of customer time and how damaging to HP's already tarnished reputation!)
Ed, HP owes you a consulting fee! Thanks a MILLION for not allowing HP to waste even more of my money and time on their junk than I already have!

Thank you all for your help. I'm running the 1210 all-in-one, followed these directions, and I got to the point where the setup assistant recognized the printer/scanner (which was awesome!). However, every time I try to scan, the Scan Pro bombs after a few seconds. Any ideas?

P.S. Mac people are the best - you all rock! Saved me a bunch a time. I know I'm not there yet, but this is as close as I've ever been.

Speaking of the 2210(xi), I tried this on someone else's after this worked on the 2110 and it *DOES NOT* work. The scanning software used to crash with some unspecified error, suggesting a reboot (whatever). Now, it at least sees the scanner, and even launches when the scan button is pressed on the HP device, but it then gets a spinning beach ball and then says it can't communicate (communication error?) with the printer.

Oh well...maybe another NEW version of the software for a DIFFERENT printer would do as well with the 2210 as Ed did with the 2110?

I just bought a Canon to replace this 2110 and suggested the same to the owner of the 2210xi - anything but HP or Lexmark!
