IMAP @ icon in mailbox sidebar

I'm using gmail though the apple mail application and in my mailbox sidebar, a new IMAP icon/mailbox shows up labeled "IMAP Account". This icon is shaped like a black and white globe with a large @ symbol in the front. If you click this icon, a whole bunch of extra folders show up with pretty much a duplicate of all the emails that are already saved on my Mac. Is there anyway to hide or remove this icon and the emails it contains?

Macbook White C2D 2GHz 2GB Memory, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Hi Josh, I'm no Mail expert, but it seems the Globe Icon & 2 are reserved for online things like .mac accounts... do you have .mac mounted?

I have no .mac account at all. I'm just using my gmail account through apple mail. This icon is labeled "IMAP Account" (I didn't label it, it just showed up...). Like I said before, it has pretty much the same mailboxes that are in gmail (archive, sent, starred, etc.). I already have all my emails saved on my mac and this icon seems to slow down the mail app alot too. It used to be when the mail app checked for new emails, the pin-wheel status circle would show up next to my "inbox" and then I would get my mail. Now, a pie-chart icon shows up before the regular pinwheel. Any advice?

BTW, is there any way to post a screen shot so people can see what I'm talking about?

Just need to post a link from where the picture is, most people have space from their ISP, but there are tons of free Pic hosting places too.

Maybe you need to check the settings on the Gmail end, it must've gotten enabled somehow...

I started using Gmail, and after setting Apple Mail to retrieve (sync) my emails from Google, I noticed that icon/mailbox appearing too.

I only know one thing: it's name "IMAP Account" because it's most likely the default name that you left when you first set up the Gmail account within Apple Mail. You can verify that by going into the Mail Preferences, Account, Account Information, and finally Description. It should show something like "IMAP Account". Mine shows "Gmail" because I renamed it.

As far as hiding that, I'm still trying to figure it out. I think if you try to delete, it might cause problems with your account.

I'll post back if I can figure it out.
