Iphone and Kenwood DNX8120

I purchased the DNX8120 Kenwood with bluetooth. When connected to my Iphone, I hear the other person just fine but reception on the other end is fuzzy. From what I've read so far, sounds like Iphone might have a weak bluetooth signal. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Did you end up resolving your issue? I have run into the same problem. Was running 1.60 had the robotic voice problem and ended up getting my installer to run the update he had (1.60). Turns out the unit froze and now blue tooth will not work at all. Does that mean you have to swap the unit out? Or do I flash with 1.61 to get it working?

Thanks for any info.

Hi there,

I too have the DNX 8120 and the iPhone, but I seem to be having some other issues than what is described here. For me the incoming voice sounds horrible, I can barely understand it at times. I had no idea for a while, until i tried moving my phone up close to the HU and it started working like a dream. It seems that either my iPhone's BT or my Kenwood 8120's BT is weak. I have to hold the iPhone up close to the BT antenna on the DNX to have the sound clear.

I am on 1.61 from day one, that was the first thing I did to it when installed it in my car.

Any suggestions are welcome,

Thanks,

Ben

The bluetooth receiver module is located on the front of the 8210 unit on the right hand side. I generally keep my 3G iPhone in my shirt pocket while I am driving (about 4 feet from the deck) and I haven't had any issues at all.

Is the problem just that the volume is low? Try turning up the volume during a call on the phone (volume controls on the side of the phone). This can only be adjusted during a call so far as I know. If that doesn't work, you may want to try re-pairing the device.

Hi,

Unfortunately for me its definitely bad then. My iPhone is kept just about 5 cm above the BT antenna, in a little compartment I have. If I remove it and lets say hold it in my hand to look up something or read an email, it is already not connected to the Head Unit anymore, or connected but crazy choppy.

I initially kept the phone in my center console, where it would stay connected, but the call quality would be a nightmare. I then realized by mistakenly moving the phone up close to the BT antenna that the calls became loud and clear.

Its a good thing I have that cubby above the Head Unit, otherwise I would need to tape the phone to the screen 🙂

I am not in the US, and this unit is a US only model, thus I cannot validate any warranty I may have (bought from Amazon), so I will just live with it like this.

Thanks for the response,

Ben
