PictClipping – how to?

I cannot create a pictclipping file. I used such file long ago, it seemed ok at that time, but now I cannot create such pictclipping anymore.

Please, advise on:
1. how to create it?
2. what is the use of it?

Thanks!

1. I remember I did something by drag&drop... Grab cannot be set to save clipping files. I only get a graphic menu with mouse options. screen capture? Is it OSX native or I have to Dl it from somewhere?

2. No use? can't believe that...

Thanks for the reply, though! I will check the GraphicConverter now...

Grab cannot be set to save clipping files.

How about a quick drop into Terminal and entering...

defaults write com.apple.screencapture type PICT

No use? can't believe that...

What I meant to say is, there are so many other formats, and lots of cross platform ones. PICT was useful back in the days when PCs couldn't do Graphics, but Macs could.

Anyway, GC will allow you to convert anything to a .pict

Asen,

Tell us exactly what you are trying to accomplish and then it will be easier to help. Is your goal to create a screen capture of something in a particular format or is it just to create a screen capture in general, and as BDAqua has correctly pointed out, there are many possible formats to use when creating a screen capture.

Well, thank you all for the advises.

What I want is that I find the pictclipping practical for use in other apps, like textedit, keynote, stickies and others. Instead of using grab or other screen capture app, the pictclipping seems to do the job as well...

So, I remember I used it some time ago, probably with photobooth, but I do not remember how. That was my question.

Thanks again for taking ur time.

It looks like there is some confusion here. A pictclipping appears to be similar to an OS X text clipping, having nothing whatsoever to do with the old PICT file format that is deprecated in OS X. In this context, "pict" is only short for "picture."
