Sharing and Permissions - com.apple.sharepoint.group.# ?

What is com.apple.sharepoint.group.n (n=1,2,3...) and where does it come from? It has permissions=Custom in my home directory. Is there any way to know what permissions would be included/set in "custom"? Currently there is a com...group.3 and a com...group.4 with custom permissions for my home directory /Users/Scott. There is also a Wheel group with custom permissions and somehow the everyone group also has aquired Custom permissions. I changed the everyone group to No Access as it is on my iMac, was this not a good thing to do? I googled and searched AppleDiscussions for com.apple.sharepoint.group but could not find any answers the above. Thanks in advance for any insights!

Directory Services, it's used to set sharepoints, drives- folders/directories, that are available for file sharing.

From the command line, for a file use the command:


ls -le <file_name>

or for a directory use:


ls -led <directory_name>

There is also a Wheel group with custom permissions and somehow the everyone group also has aquired Custom permissions. I changed the everyone group to No Access as it is on my iMac, was this not a good thing to do?

Changing the settings, bsd permission or ACE, is not a good thing to do. Unless, you have a good understanding of what you are doing.

Mark, THANK YOU for your prompt and very useful reply! Since the "custom" permissions that are appearing for wheel and for "everyone" are defined by an ACL, and since I probably did a foolish thing in changing the "custom" permission set for "everyone" to "no access"... is there a way to see how "custom" is defined and perhaps change "everyone" back to the "custom" setting? Of course "custom" is not an option in the info dialog window for the directory. Thanks again for your help! s.
