Samsung monitor (2253LW 22") & iBook G4

Samsung monitor (2253LW 22") & iBook G4

I saw this Samsung monitor at Costco (Samsung 2253LW 22" 1680x1050 native resolution), it has both DVI & VGA connections. It's got really great reviews from a lot of websites. I would be using the VGA connector. I guess the resolution on my iBook is 1024x768. What are your thoughts?

You may be able to get some sort of support with the iBook trying
to power up that large of a display; it probably isn't recommended.

SwitchResX software may give you a few options, but I would
be skeptical on going out without some more information from
people who have some experience; since a portable computer
has no upgrade options, so the place you'd buy such a screen
from should have a great returns policy if you can't use it!

Thanks for your input ... Costco has it for about $250 and they're return policy is really good. I talked to a Mac Genius over the weekend and he said he was 250% sure it would work, but only at the maxiumum resolution that my iBook can pump out (1024). So, I'm going to check it out next payday and I'll report back in case anyone else is interested. It's seems to be a pretty good value monitor, we'll see if it fits.

It's a great monitor! But as previously discussed it goes up to the highest resolution per my video card (1024). It's works great on my girlfriend's brand new Powerbook, that DVI makes things look sweet! I recommend this monitor.

Screen spanning doctor will help you out! Google it! If you don't want to run dual displays, all you have to do is enable it, crank up the resolution on the VGa monitor, and then set it so the finder is on that monitor, and then you dim the iBook screen all the way down. Thats what I do, works very well!

I have a related question to this thread which is- is it ok to buy a PC monitor for my Mac? This Samsung is obviously not an Apple product, but does this apply to all monitors? I was looking at an Acer. I have an iBook G4, 10.3.9. What kind of connections does it need to have - VGA? What else do I need to look for. I love the Apple monitors, but price is a huge factor for me.
