Imac g3 "tangerine" 333 mhz

my imac g3 tangerine 333mhz keeps turning off after i use it for awhile
and the screen every once in a while will have a white line go through it

imac g3 333 "tangerine" 96 mb ram 20 GB hard disk MAC OS 9.2.1, Mac OS 9.2.x

It sounds like the analog video board is failing. I have experienced that problem; unfortunately, it is the most common failure point for those CRT iMacs.

You can test if this is the problem. Open the bottom panel of the iMac. Disconnect the cable going to the internal chassis that looks like a video cable. Start the Mac with this cable disconnected. It should start normally, even though you will not see any video. Since the video board is bypassed, it will keep running without shutting off, if the problem was the video board.

(If it keeps running, you can shut it down with no video by pressing the power key and Return)

Replacing that part can expose you to an electrical shock that could kill you, if the proper precautions aren't followed. Unless you're experienced with CRT-type electronics repair, it's better left to a trained individual. Pulled PAV boards can be found at eBay, but since they're used, you can never be sure how much service life you'll get out of them.
