After I want to install sare rules with auto-update but when I want to run sa-update to install key ans rules, the only message I can have is : "sa-update: command not found" .
I've a sa-update file in /user/local/bin/ but even if run sa-update from this directory, i've the message.

Please help !

Thanks

Hello Alex

Yes I ran it from root user
As I said, it is a new server so there is no rules configured before.
I've found a running version of sa-update in /SourceCache/spamassassin/

In Spamassassin website, it is said that sa-update must be at the same location than spamassassin (I suppose to be /usr/bin/) So I propose to copy sa-update in the same directory but what about rules, spamc, spamd, spam-apache, sql, t… folders located in /SourceChache/Spamassassin/.

Another question about sa-learn. There is an old version in /usr/bin/ and a new version in /SourceCache/spamassassin/. Must I copy it also the new version at the place of the old one.

Thanks Alex for all your contributions. You seems to be the very best one of contributors about mail services !

Vincent,

You are welcome. 🙂

Even on a new installation, all standard spamassassin rules will already be present in /usr/local/share/spamassassin and/or /usr/share/spamassassin.

You can manually add extra rules like the SARE rules to /etc/mail/spamassassin (this can also be done by issuing "spamtrainer -a".

Not sure what didn't go right, but you should have a version of sa-update in /usr/local/bin. If everything else works fine, just copy the one in SourceCache.

HTH,
Alex

Hi Alex

I was away for a few days. So I can't reply.
Thanks for all your informations.

HELAS

This afternoon, I install the new server. The install is clean because I'have started from a new formatted disk

And I've same errors than the old one. All mails are blocked in queue. I've comment the line about amavis in main.cf. Some mails are distributed but other no

Here are the 2 types of message that I ve in queue

delivery temporarily suspended: connect to 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1]: Connection refused

This one is when the line is uncommented

delivery temporarily suspended: transport is unavailable

this one is when the line about amavis is commented.

I've seen something (relied or not). I cannot uncheck the virus and the spam button in server administration. When I save, the buttons return checked. But I can change options in the two "sub pannel". I've made repair authorization, disk, erase pram, reset open firmware. Nothing.

It s a working server so your help is greatly accepted and welcome

Thanks

Vinc'

re Hi

So Alex, i must add some issue.
I see that my previous message is not very clear. (my english is not so good)

When I the line about "content_filter" is uncommented the message is :
"delivery temporarily suspended: connect to 127.0.0.1 http://127.0.0.1: Connection refused"

When I the line about "content_filter" is commented the message is :
"delivery temporarily suspended: transport is unavailable"

I've notice that, in this case, messages stocked are from a mailer deamon and all recipients are not for my domain. not sure but it is possible that it s a t the moment where I check "return spam or virus"(i d o not remember and i'm not in front of the server)

Since i've commented the line about content_filter, spam and virus filters are unchecked. If I check the two boxes, it adds a new line in main.cf (suppose to be normal).

I'am very disappointed because I take a lot of time to do the install correctly with last updates.

Result : same problem that the old server.

Is there a possibilty that the last security update of apple has a minor bug?

Tell me if you need some logs, but please tell me also where I can find them. I'm not familiar with Unix system...

Although you posted in the 10.5 section, you mention installing 10.4.11. Which one is it?

The security update on 10.4.11 can cause issues I have described here:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1449008&tstart=0

The error message you get is because amavisd is not running. This can be because the launchd item hasn't been loaded, or there is a problem with amavisd.
Try and issue:

amavisd

and see if it throws any errors.

Sorry I've not seen that it was for 10.5.
My server is running under 10.4.11.
So I'm away from the server now, but I can access with ssh.
When I run amavisd, I get this message :
drop_priv: No such username: vscan

I'm logged as root.
😟

I've read your message about security update. But I've installed security update and AFTER I've confiured the server. Is it matter?

Hello Alex

This morning I've made change on amavisd.conf as it's said in your how-to and run amavisd

I've run amavisd (as root user) :

setrgid() not implemented at /usr/bin/amavisd line 12353.

So I'm away from my knowledge. I'm only a user.

The very bad news is that the server has refused all incomming mail this night (no mail in queue). Yesterday, before I leave, it was running not fine but running.

So at this time I don't know what I must do. Erase all the partition and restart from 0 or try to repair. For the moment, I'm running on the old server without virus scanner.

Thanks for your opinion

Did you try and install amavisd 2.6.0 or 2.5.4? The error you show sounds like 2.6.0 to me.
2.6.0 will not work (and the tutorial clearly states: "...This can be safely updated to the latest stable version of amavisd-new 2.5.x ...")

If your mail server refused all mail without queueing it, you have some other issue besides amavisd. amavisd gets called after mail is already accepted into the queue?
