Apple please fix XML import!!! Thank you!

I just bought Logic 7 based upon Apple's claims that it supports XML import from a Final Cut Pro timeline. Whoops- I'm an idiot- should have read these posts first.

Apparently I am not the only one to have no success getting a clean transfer.

Sure I am able to import the XML, but it's a huge mess. Tracks are not showing up correctly and audio keyframe (automation) is always way screwed up. And from all the other posts on this subject I have seen there is no joy for anyone else either.

The sole reason for me to buy this app was to do precision post audio work for video done in Final Cut. One would think that the smartest way to go would be to stick with all Apple apps- c'mon Apple. PLEASE give us a FIX! Or at tell us we are all crazy and explain what we need to do, or not do, to at least work around these problems.

Thanks!

" many people who only have Mini DV (wedding and event videographers) love FCE as it has loads of power at less price (but it still can't touch FCP)
I know a couple of places that use FCE as offline cutting stations and rental suites

Well of course most NLE have their entry versions. Many will
work for a majority of editors. And of course the learning curve is much less steep.

However, some NLE position themselves for the professional
high end market - this means BROADCAST and FILM.

Those people NEED the extra power and stablility, and support, of FCP 4.5 HD.

Those people NEED the extra power and stability, and support, of a high end audio application - Like LOGIC promised buyers it would be.

Wow- just got my last post stricken from the record! At least we know Apple actually reads these posts- so I guess that's a good thing. Let me rephrase it:

I started this thread on Nov 12, 2004. It's now Feb 1. 2005. XML import from Final Cut Pro still does not work. OMF still does not work- in fact, the 7.0.1 update apparently makes it worse according to some users. I have tried numerous times to get a complete and proper transfer to no avail.

All I ask is for is 1) a response such as: "Yes we know it's broken, we are hard at work fixing it, expect a fix soon" or 2) my money back.

to Rand Wetherwax...

..er... Im still on OS9 useing OMF because Im waiting for XML to work exclusivly with FCP, and you are the second person that has said that it is working! the first person wouldnt reply to my post and states to be a beta tester for logic on another fourm?

Could you let me know a little about what you are doing with XML, especially the durations and your system.

Dear Rand Wetherwax,

What? What do you think we have been doing for 3 months? I really don't care how I get a timeline from Final Cut to Logic- be it XML, OMF or AAF just as long as it get's there intact as it should be.

So far I can't get a clean transfer (if one at all) from any of the three methods.

Please- if you have information on just how exactly to accomplish the task then do share!

well i've tried every import option too and still nothing. what we NEED is a representative of Apple to aknowledge the problem. we need to know that they are aware of it. for all we know this hasn't been fixed since logic went to OSX because they know nothing about it. Do they read these discusiion boards? it is certainly a slap in the face when you read that their knowledge base suggests XML for sharing between Logic and FCP not OMF. Not one person here has had it working! i lke logc a lot and it's a pity that something as fundamentalk as this is broken. i hate to turn to another program but i've been forced to.

Thomas,

Speaking of which- it's been almost 4 months now Apple!!! Where is the working XML?

Anyway, I'm not sure about Nuendo- but take a look at Digi 002 rack with Protools LE ($1000 for 6.1 surround mix capable) plus DV Toolkit -(OMF2 Imports that work for $1000). Probably the best "cheap" solution until the XML/OMF/AAF debacle gets fixed with Logic Pro.
