Iphone bottom row of icons not working

Having trouble with the slide to unlock - works sometimes and sometimes not. Once unlocked, icons on the bottom row will not work. No matter what application I'm in, the botoom of the touchscreen does not respond. I can not type a text, bottom row on calculator doesn't work, etc. I have tried reset.... Anyone know what's going on? I've had the phone almost a year and have had no probs till now.

If reset or restore doesn't clear the problem up, the next step would be to call AppleCare or make an appointment at the Genius Bar in an Apple Store.

Very unfortunate. Restore didn't do it. Let's see what the store has to say...

Same thing with my phone. Out of the blue, the bottom row of icons stopped working... that part of the screen won't work no matter what the page or application (except the slider works to turn it on). I've tried the suggested fixes (short of paying Apple to fix it), and nothing has worked.

Anyone know why this happens, or how to fix it short of sending the phone in for repairs?
