Iphone bottom row of icons not working

Having trouble with the slide to unlock - works sometimes and sometimes not. Once unlocked, icons on the bottom row will not work. No matter what application I'm in, the botoom of the touchscreen does not respond. I can not type a text, bottom row on calculator doesn't work, etc. I have tried reset.... Anyone know what's going on? I've had the phone almost a year and have had no probs till now.

If reset or restore doesn't clear the problem up, the next step would be to call AppleCare or make an appointment at the Genius Bar in an Apple Store.

Thanks for the response. I have not tried restore. I've never done this. Will it delete all my stuff? I've had to change laptops so my itunes data is no longer available. I have no way of reloading my music and contacts if I lose it from the phone.

Well if you have to restore it, it will erase everything. It does give you an option to save your contacts, but I'm not sure about the music. Once it is done restoring, it will put everything back on your phone. Since I never tried it from a different computer, I'm not sure if it will put your iTunes stuff back or if it will try to sync with the computer. That will just have to try it and find out. If it were me, I would rather lose my music than my phone.

Well yea... mee too. But who's to say this defintely work? What if I restore... lose all my stuff... and the phone still doesn't work? I was hoping to find someone out there that has had similar issues. Looks like my problem is pretty unique.

My wife's iPhone did this after the phone was knocked off the coffee table onto carpeted floor. After a Restore, she has her iPhone back 100%.
I would recommend this if there are no other options. (I know of none myself.)

Frieds aaccidently my iphone just slipped out of my hand and the first two rows are not at all working and i am not even able to power off it since it is in the first row . Can anyone help me out

Follow Tamara's instructions above. You may have a hardware issue with your touchscreen.

Hi Mac Medic,
I tried the restore.... didn't work. This is so dissapointing. I saw another post similar that says they dropped their phone. I did not drop my phone. I had it on the charger for an hour... picked it up and it didn't work. Lots of friends I know do lots of weird stuff with their iphones. Me... I truly love my phone... I follow the rules always keep it safe and dry, no jailbreaks...etc. Now what should I do?

Unfortunately, some people have been having problems with their touchscreens. There's nothing we can do to help you get it going if its hardware-related. Contact Apple and they will get you going again.

Well... You were right and I appreciate you. I was able to get an appointment with a genuis yesterday afternoon. No questions asked - SHE REPLACED THE PHONE! It was almost painless. Thanks to all of you for your help!! Problem solved

I just installed 2.0, and the bottom row of buttons do not work on some email (space bar, numbers) functions and safari (space bar, google numbers) I restored twice. Still nothing. Other functions/apps work find toward the bottom of the scree. Any thoughts

Strange. Did nothing unusual with my phone. Can't click on app store or wifi store, or any other icons in bottom row. Can't even drag anything into it. HOWEVER, the typing works in all areas... hard reset didn't work.

will try restore today. otherwise, i guess i'm out of warrenty (bought first weekend)... i wonder what will happen.
