Apogee Duet makes CPU warm using Leopard

Hi there!

Switching from Tiger to Leopard my CPU becomes very warm, and the fan works on top speed, when I plug in the Duet. What do you think can be the cause of this?

Called Apogee again. Bare with me and read this whole post so this makes sense...

I need to run my external HDD off of my firewire port while running the Duet at the same time. This is because my Macbook only has one 1394 port. That being said, I asked Apogee if this could be done. They told me the Duet was designed to daisy chain off of a firewire, HDD enclosure.

Apogee also said the reason why my CPU could be heating up is because the Duet powers itself via the firewire port on my computer. Sticking an external HDD in between the computer and the Duet may cause the Duet to get its power from the external HDD power supply rather than power off of the Macbook's firewire port.

I'm waiting on an enclosure in the mail now, so I'll let you all know what happens.

I've run my Duet off the back of a Lacie for a year now with no issues, first, with Tiger, now with Leopard. Neither the Duet nor MB run especially warm.

Hi,

Um, I am not sure, but I will have a look when I have some time.

Great news though! I was sick of Tiger and did an "Archive and install" of Leopard a couple of weeks ago. All I did was to download the most recent drivers for Duet and voila! My fans behave just the way they should! I can now use my Apogee Duet in Leopard!
The fan issue is still on the MacBook using Leopard, but that fan seem to go max even if the only app running is FireFox... But I'm using my MBP for music, so I won't bother.

Good luck guys!
