My new Canon requires the SDHC card. Iphoto will not recognize these files. The driver is on a mini cd that will not work in my imac and I do not have an external CD driver. The Sandisk website has no SDHC drivers to download. Has anyone else come across this problem?
Can you send me the link to the original exchange where you saw this? Just want to double check with whomever wrote in that OS upgrade is enough. The reason I'm concerned is that other forums addressing this issue and the Apple website itself talk about a fix for iPhoto 08. Maybe they assume you already have Leopard. I don't know if Leopard works with iPhoto 6. Any idea?
Thanks for the correction.
Sorry for the delay in responding. I don't think SanDisk makes the situation very clear, but it's actually much easier than they make it sound.
First of all, if you are using an SDHC card (and the camera supports that format--that info is easy to find in the product info or on the camera manufacturer's website), you can download pics directly from the card while it is still in the camera. Nothing extra is needed for this. You use the USB cord that came with the camera, and they'll go right into iPhoto as usual.
Second, the only reason for needing the card reader is if you want to download images DIRECTLY FROM THE CARD ITSELF, without the camera. This is handy, for example, if someone else has taken pictures at an event and wants to share them with you. As long as you have a card reader that supports that type of card, it's no problem at all. SanDisk makes several types of readers, and it's easy to find out if they support SDHC or not. You just stick the card into the reader (which has a USB connector), plug the reader into your USB port, and iPhoto will open as usual and offer to import the photos.
If this doesn't help, please write back and I'll try to clarify.
I have not read all the answers to this issue so I apologise if someone has already said this - but change the cable ! I just purchased a card reader and no luck downloading or even recognising data - then used a ZCAT 2035-0930 cable and no worries reading the card. Works fine - but NOT with the cable provided by the people I purchased the card reader from !!!!
